Rustic Retreat

Quiet, private, secluded home on 25 acres of forested land. The home was built from logs milled on site. Enjoy filtered spring water, natural light, stargazing, & views of the tops of Mount Baker and the Sisters on a clear day. Owls and Elk can be heard during the evening hours at certain times of the year. Heat is provided by a wood stove and 3 space heaters. Mount Baker is 1 hour away; Bellingham is 30 minutes. Well-behaved, house trained, and supervised pets are welcome with a per pet fee.

Designed as a nod to my heritage, Skoghus ('forest house' in Norwegian) was crafted for relaxation, and reconnecting with nature. The treehouse sits in the centre of a Scottish Highland cattle farm, with pasture and forest in all directions. From the yard, you'll be able to observe and engage with the farm's cattle when they come by. Inside, you can disconnect and unwind, with luxury amenities. The dwelling is completely unique and provides a very special feeling while living in the trees.

This Dairy Barn built in 1912 is completely remolded, beautiful wood work with 13 stairs access to the top 1000 sq.ft. floor loft. Drive around the back where parking is provided next to stair entrance. Full kitchen and bathroom, one queen bed, one fold out Futon couch, gas heat stand alone fireplace. Very private. Property is on a wooded 5 acres in a rural coltisac of a dead-end road near Cain Lake in Alger. Minutes to Lake Whatcom and Sudden Valley. About 20 minutes to Bellingham, Sedro Woolley, and Burlington, 15 minutes to Galbraith Mountain, and an hour to Mt. Baker. 20 minutes to popular Bow/Edison. Plenty of hiking and mountain biking around!

This is truly a unique cabin. Designed by architect David Neiman & featured in the book "Log Houses of the World," it combines Japanese style features & NW log-frame construction to create a truly unique experience. Included in the rental is use of the 13+ acre wooded property, including access to the middle fork of the Nooksack River. The cabin is close to the year-round outdoor recreational opportunities that the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest provides.
