We’ll pick you up at your hotel or casa particular and we'll depart from Havana in a two hours trip (~220 km ) through the national highway to the south of Matanzas province (transportation fee NOT included, read below for details). We'll make a quick stop to have breakfast. Our final destination is Zapata Swamp, National Park, biosphere reserve and the biggest wetland in the Caribbean. Once there, we’ll go to the Bay of Pigs, and then we'll stop in a non-frequently visited area and get into the water to snorkel in a well preserved coral reefs ecosystem for about 1 hour, we’ll provide snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel and fins) and safety instructions, you need to have into account that we are going to interact with the wildlife in a protected area, but there´s no dangerous species like sharks. Our second activity is to go in a guidedwalk through a short and rocky path (~20 min) in forest until we arrive to the extraordinary cenotes for swimming/snorkeling/bird watching. Before we return to Havana we’ll enjoy a traditional Cuban lunch (mostly seafood) in a typical local house moreover we’ll be able to know the local culture and know about the huge history of this place. This's a day for relax & enjoy the nature!

We are Patricia y Adrian, naturalist graduated from University of Havana. We feel really passionate by nature and mostly the sea and aquatic sports. We have made several travels around Cuba to remote places finding new pristine areas to enjoy nature focus on science, education and recreation. Our first language is Spanish, but we also speak English. We are Scuba divers, with the advance diving licenses and we have a lot of experience diving around Cuba for more than 5 years as part of our research and for our own joy. Le lieu

We’ll go to the Bay of Pigs in the Zapata Swamp, is located at the south coast of Matanzas province. Is the only place in Cuba were you can find cenotes and coral reefs so close to each other, it has many endemic species such as Cuban gar (fresh water fish), several birds and the Cuban crocodile . This place is also full of history and local people are friendly and kind. It’s a very quiet place, perfect to enjoy nature, relax and have lots of fun

Our hosts were very professional. They know the sites very well, and have made good connections with people you will encounter along the way. We felt we were in capable hands - the couple themselves being very young, fit and watchful. They were friendly, very polite and personable during meal times, easy to talk to during the long taxi rides, and knew to pick some very beautiful things to see. They were clearly intelligent - both being the field marine biology - and offered a glimpse into the world of Cuban academic life. They were able to answer all of our questions and talk about some of their research. We enjoyed ourselves immensely!

Get out of Havana with this great experience. The Bay of Pigs is historic but the waters are also beautiful and the snorkeling was marvelous. The second stage takes you into the forest to swim and cliff dive in secluded saltwater pools. It was a wonderful setting and not quite like anything I'd done before. I made more intense memories on this journey than I could have anticipated. I won't forget it. The substantial logistics were all good. The pickup at my place was right on time. The journey across the island in a 1950's sedan was something else. (Note the transportation fee and how it relates to the cumulative number of participants.) We stopped twice for meals and these were very good. The hosts are a very natural, informal, and friendly couple who enjoy the experience with you. Their English is great. Their approach is unacademic. Everyone is just having fun. You can read up on the historical background of the invasion (which is fascinating) as the focus is on enjoy the amazing locations and splendid activities in the moment. It was a great experience, beautiful and fun. I would rate this and Viñales as the two most indispensable day trips from Havana.

To make a long story short, at the last minute, my travel partner had to cancel, so I booked this experience at the last minute and I was a little sad to be going alone. However, the experience was great and I wouldn't change a thing - except I never even met Patry... this is one of those experiences where someone has the name, or the website, or the reputation and someone else actually hosts. Ernesto was my guide. I exited my Airbnb accommodation exactly five minutes before the start time and was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome from Ernesto. He presented me to the driver, Yasiel, who was very polite but very quiet. (I later learned Yasiel is an extreme introvert, which I respect, but, at the time, as an overthinker, and a people pleaser, I was concerned.) I mentioned that I had only had about 90 minutes of sleep... (too much partying the night before) and Ernesto suggested, since it was before dawn, and we had a solid two hour drive, that I may want to take a nap, which I did. When the car stopped, awhile later, we were at a nice rest stop where Ernesto, Yasiel, and I ate a sandwich and has a delicious espresso. Even the restroom was nice and clean. Afterwards, we proceeded to our destination. Our first stop was Playa Girón where Ernesto and I spent about an hour snorkeling in the beautiful Bay. The water was crystal clear and the marine life was extraordinary. After snorkeling, we drove a bit further to a national reserve and "hiked" to see the cenotes. At the last stop, Ernesto asked if I wanted to jump in, and, I did - 40 feet into the refreshing water. The entire time, Ernesto and I engaged in wonderful conversation and he offered me a hand in the uneven terrain. He was a complete gentleman and I, very much, enjoyed his company. He showed me some of the Park's natural wonders and I took several pics. At the end, we drove back to Havana and he dropped me off at my AIrBnB. My only regret is that I did not exchange contact information with Ernesto. HE is a delightful young man and I can imagine a life-long friendship with him. I highly recommend this experience.

This hiking and snorkelling experience was really good and enjoyable. This is definitely a recommended experience if one visits Cuba. Our co-host/tour guide was really good. He explained the history and significance of things as we explored this beautiful national park in south of Cuba. Getting to know the trivia (about history, culture, significant plants and animals of the area) while hiking around a luscious green landscape within limestone rocks was great. Exploring and bathing in really beautiful ‘cenotes’ is definitely one of the key highlight of the experience. The lunch was a traditional home cooked meal and was delicious. Coming to snorkelling, it was really awesome and breathtaking. It was one of the cooler days so water was a bit cold but one quickly forgets about that when we start seeing beautiful corals and fishes. I do recommend that a person new to snorkelling should spend at least 5 mins getting used to it and then start exploring. Also it would have been good if life jacket was provided. It was safe and we had floating devices to hold on to, but for a non-swimmer(like my partner) to be able to enjoy the snorkelling experience more, a life jacket would have definitely helped. Overall it was a good experience and we had a good time.

This is a bucket list experience! Ernesto provided so much insight and history around the national park, the battle at the bay of pigs, the history of Cuba, etc. that really added to the experience. The snorkeling was a little chilly to start, but once we started moving and got the goggles fitted, it was a fun experience, and beautiful too. We really enjoyed the small hike and getting to jump into the cenote!
