Au programme

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 16 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and the many other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats and Philip our sheep! The hike consists of an approximately one and a half mile loop trail through our woods on lightly groomed trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals, what they eat, and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies!

Please note: Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. 5 and 6 year olds should plan to hold a parent's hand during the hike. (Children under 4 must be carried).

Other things to note:
The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulties with uneven or steep terrain should be aware.

Le lieu

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike starts at our 1901 traditional New England connected Farmhouse and homestead. We have spent the past 16 years restoring the homestead's agricultural heritage. We are a diversified farm, so there's a little bit of everything here, and something for everyone: goats, pigs, sheep, mini horses, poultry, a large garden, fruit trees, and 18 acres of beautiful Maine woods and trails, on which we hike with the goats.

What a great experience. It was the right balance of learning about farming/animals and physical activity. The surroundings are beautiful, and the animals were amazing. They stay right with you during the hike, and they truly seem to enjoy interacting with people.

Perfect excursion—very short, easy hike with goats and a sheep 🐑 with educational commentary. Milk and cookies after plus a cool little swag shop!

We had a wonderful time on the goat hike - it was a unique and special experience, and one that we can highly recommend to others! Thanks for a great goat hike, Karl & Margaret! We hope to return for another hike one day soon - and loved meeting Phillip the sheep, the pigs, and the horses too!

The goat hike was a rich and unique experience; worth every penny and then some. Karl & Margaret are special people. Really enjoyed listening to their story and the educational bits and pieces about farm life and raising goats.

This was hands down the best Airbnb experience my mom and I have ever been on. Karl and Margaret were super friendly and knowledgeable. The hike was a lot of fun and the goats and Phillip the sheep were great. Even though there was snow, the hike was beautiful and pretty low impact. The cookies and milk at the end were delicious as well. Would definitely come back anytime!

What a great way to start our Maine vacation. Karl and Margaret were delightful. The goats and Philip were adorable and well behaved. The cookies and goat milk were delicious. The hike was magical. it was snowing when we started out and had cleared by the time it was over. So we walked over a few inches of fresh snowball snow through a winter wonderland of snow coated trees. Educational, fun and a good way to get your goat fix, if you don't have some of your own. Goats make me smile.
