Built in 1880 by Dr. A.C. Shepherd, this historic cottage has served as a doctor’s office, a general store, and a boarding house. The cottage is located at marker p12 on the New River Trail. From the wrap around porch, you can listen to the rapids cascading into Claytor Lake. A boat launch is conveniently located less than 1/2 mile away offering free river access. (Please note that the river is not directly accessible from the property). It is the perfect location to play, relax, or both!

Constructed from two old tobacco barns (with fireplace), this property provides a unique experience-connecting the past & present. The cabin is surrounded by nature’s beauty and Big Reed Island river flows only feet from the front porch. Great location just 1/2 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway at MP 152. Surrounded by open fields, mountain vistas abound. This home has been lived in and gently loved for many years. There is one bedroom downstairs and two upstairs. An extra cot is available. Fully equipped kitchen! Great for families and a long stay. Guests are invited to join us when feeding the farm animals (alpacas, llamas, Highland cattle, Jacob sheep and angora goats) each morning. Fun!
