Delightfully Cozy Historic Post Office/Guesthouse

Estelene was established in 1910 and served as a community center and post office for rural people of southwest Baca County until 1927. Estelene was named after Estelene Collins, the lady who operated the post office on the Collins Ranch where it was located. Estelene was also a teacher at the local schoolhouse for a time. The story goes that after she got older and unable to climb the hill to the original post office, she asked the community to build her a post office closer to the house.

Little Piece of Heaven

This brick home was built in the 1950’s. It has been updated with ceramic tile, a shower in the bathtub, new carpet & laminate flooring in most of the house. The new air conditioning system and heater with added ceiling fans make for the ideal temperature for any visitor. The home is comfortable, inviting and peaceful. The backyard currently has an unfinished patio with chairs & a grill for those who enjoy the outdoors. The fenced yard makes for a great place for the kids to run and play!

Whether you’re visiting La Junta for work or play, the School House offers a cozy one-bedroom, one-bath retreat with a well-stocked kitchen, full-sized washer and dryer, central heating and cooling, and lightning fast internet. The School House is located across the street from the La Junta Intermediate School. On-street parking is available in front of the School House with additional parking available off the alley.

A self-catering vacation rental, Mesa Valley GuestHouse is located at the base of the Black Mesa on the Walker Ranch, near Kenton, OK. When reserving the guesthouse, you are paying for the number of guests staying. Base rate increases with number of guests coming. No one else has access to the property. The area is secluded and private. You are 42 miles from the nearest town, gas station and grocery store. Make sure you have plenty of gas and food.

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). We are a good stopping point before heading to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico.
