Le logement

Huge studio double room In a beautiful country house in Devon near Dartmoor, Totnes, Dartington Hall and the South Hams coast.

This is a very handsome spacious double room in our country house for you to relax in. Looking out onto our garden and the hills beyond, the room faces East and West so has lovely light in morning and evening.

With a double bed, two comfortable sofas, big screen tv, wifi some great modern art and plenty of books to read - this is a home from home.

Our light and spacious house is set in a leafy one and half acre garden, next to 14 acres of pasture and mature woodlands,

We have lots of dogs, cats, horses, ponies, chickens, ducks and sheep - all for you to enjoy.

We are right next to the 400 acre Hembury Woods where there are many walks which lead to the magical Dart River and Iron Age fort.

Guests share a pretty upstairs bathroom with enclosed shower and there is a separate toilet on the ground floor.

We serve a delicious mostly organic breakfast in our very large airy kitchen diner. There is a choice of juice, porridge (a speciality is porridge with Tahini, honey and banana), muesli, yoghurt, Riverford Farm Pain de Compagne and/or hand made Rye. home made jams and marmalade. Fresh coffee, regular tea and a wide range of herbal teas are served.

We're 15 minutes drive from the wilderness of Dartmoor, 30 minutes from the South Devon coast and 20 minutes from creative hub of Totnes - voted one of the coolest towns in England.

We are 15 minutes away from the medieval Dartington Hall which is a world renowned artistic centre set in stunning gardens and which has a rich programme of cultural events. We are also close by Rill Farm which is a centre for a number of yoga and other similar workshops.

And if you like steam trains we have that too - during the summer a number of vintage trains run from Buckfastleigh to Totnes.

This is a hot spot for local and organic food - the renowned Riverford Farm Kitchen restaurant and shop is just 10 minutes drive away. There is a good local supermarket 5 minutes away in Buckfastleigh and a brilliant fish deli and bakery in Ashburton just 8 minutes away.

There are plenty of good pubs in the area - the nearest is about 10 minutes walk away.

For train travellers, Totnes is 3 hours from London on the main line from Paddington Station. We're half an hour South of Exeter and half an hour North of Plymouth, buses run to Buckfastleigh from both cities.

There are airports at Exeter (45 minutes away) and Bristol (90 minutes away) both of which have international connections.

We will make you welcome and love to spend some time with you over breakfast if that is something you'd enjoy. Otherwise we leave you to enjoy yourselves. Of course we are always available to answer questions.

We are a busy friendly family with Nick and Judy and our 19 year old twins Donald and Hattie at home some of the time. We are happy to share our home with visitors.

We have 6 dogs (and sometimes dogs come to visit) and 4 cats so the place if very lived in and comfy - ie not smart.

Le quartier

This is a very beautiful and peaceful part of Devon. The property is framed by our magnificent oak trees with Hembury Woods and the further off hills of Dartmoor forming the wider background.

Our garden is full of birds all year round.

About 20 minutes walk away there is access to a good bus service to Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth.
The steam train from Buckfastleigh (about 30 mins walk away) runs to Totnes.

Great hosts in the most beautiful setting, with lots of space in and around the accomodation. A perfect base to explore this beautiful corner of rural Devon. The host was extremely helpful, responded quickly to all our queries and accommodated our late arrival without any problems. Charming hosts in an equally charming setting.

This B&B is set in beautiful countryside, just a short distance from Buckfast Abbey, which is lovely. We had a large room, and a good breakfast each morning. Nick provided us with great directions to the property, and we were made welcome on arrival.

Very accommodating hosts and were more than willing to provide space to hang our gear, following the wet weather. Lovely breakfast- simple but quality- porridge and toast with locally sourced jams. The house was very clean. Nice artwork and lots of books!

My hosts were out upon my arrival but I had received a message explaining why, and given full instructions upon letting myself in. It wasn't long before they arrived home and welcomed me with a much needed hot drink after my long journey. My room was spacious and had everything I needed to make myself comfortable. Towels were provided as was a heater for when the room became cooler.

I am a designer and communications person, I work from home and in London, my wife Judy runs our property. We have two teenage children, Hattie & Donald. On our small organic holding we have horses, ponies, sheep and lots of dogs and cats. We like to live a pretty simple life and enjoy meeting new people from around the world.

We enjoy having guests who appreciate nature and will enjoy the laid back (and somewhat) messy home we live in.

We've really enjoyed being Airbnb hosts - all the guests we've had have been very friendly and a pleasure to have with us.
