Tastefully restored Victorian row house located blocks from the convention center. Cozy English basement apartment hosts it's own bedroom/bathroom, kitchen, living/dining. Old world charm w/ 21st century comfort where people provide the heart & soul!
This English basement apartment is a self-contained apartment on the lower level of a three story Victorian Row house. It has it's own bedroom, bathroom, living/dining room and kitchen. It shares an entrance with the main house and then has it's own entrance down the stairs to the apartment.
The bedroom with a double/full bed, dresser/mirror, floor lamp, reading chair and lovely Persian carpet is quite cozy. It has a window that catches the morning sun.
The living/dining room comes complete with a double/full pull out sofa (with traditional metal frame and mattress that folds three times to make the seat of the and would sleep two children comfortably), two chairs, end table, TV - Verizon Cable and High speed internet (50Mbs), and dining table and chairs.
The kitchen has a full size stove and refrigerator and comes stocked with the essentials: vinegar and oil, salt/pepper, and a few spices!
There is a full size washer and dryer which you are free to use. It is also shared with the main house at times when you are not in the apartment and with your prior approval.
The hosts occupy the main part of the house, along with out lovely housemate and other air bnb guests on the top floor. They share the main entrance to the house, but do not access the English basement apartment.
Although they are not allowed in the apartment, there are two other permanent residents in the main house! Simba and Nala. They are rather large Maine Coone cats! Very sweet and loving, but terribly shy (unless they know you absolutely love kitties!) So please, if you have any allergies or just plain don't like cats, this may not be the place for you!
Lastly, there is a lovely patio and garden (with a Weber bar-b-q) that you are free to use during your stay. Access is from your apartment.

We absolutely love having guests. We do not take everyone who inquires - we can afford to be choosy! We are interested in people who love to travel, are open to new experiences and who prefer the community of shared living, rather than a hotel. As mentioned, the apartment is self-contained, but as we share the main entrance to the house, we might see each other as we are coming and going!
Elmar is often around upstairs (works from home) and is always available for a chat, or to answer any questions or concerns. Michelle, equally sociable, travels quite a bit for business and so is in and out. Amanda, our Venezuelan friend works full time and is usually up and out by 9 a.m.
It's hard to articulate properly our love for having people in our home. You can read our reviews to get a sense of who we are. We did AirBnB in Sydney for a couple years before moving back to the US and wanted to continue the tradition here. But that's exactly it - it's our home, not a hotel so we are looking for folks who share those same values!
* Please enjoy yourself but treat the space as a private residence, not a hotel!
* Please ensure your air bnb profile, including a photo of yourself, is completed before requesting to book.
* No smoking or candles inside.
* Strictly no pets, no parties allowed.
* We tend to wear slippers in the house (or go barefoot) if at all possible!
* Early or late check in may be arranged, if requested in advance.
Elmar is from Austria originally, speaks German and English, and lived in Australia for 20 years. Michelle is from the US, speaks English and Spanish, and lived in Australia for 7 years. We returned to DC in March 2016 and as super hosts in Sydney, we are keen to continue with Airbnb in our DC home! Both of us are well traveled and love having guests in our home. As a couple, we are easy going, easy to be with and enjoy conversing about travel, life and experiences (or whatever happens to come up over a nice cuppa or a meal!) We are extremely flexible, and are happy to accommodate schedules of our guests. Come and see us in our nation's capitol!
