Description

Located on an organic farm just 16 miles from Asheville, this cozy cabin is completely off the grid. Built mostly of reclaimed materials, we enjoy solar power, pure spring water, a pond fed by a rushing creek, exhiliarating hikes, spectacular views, birding, stargazing with no street lights or noise interference.

The house sits right in the middle of an 80 acre organic farm which was placed in a landtrust /conservation easement several years ago. The farm is surrounded by another 130 acres of preserved land, also entrusted to the same conservancy. The house is run primarily on solar. There are no power lines or generators. We hear the creek, birds, frogs, crickets, coyotes, owls. The spring and summer songbirds call you to witness the beauty of sunrise.
In the fall, the leaves turn to brilliant shades of flame eventually drifting to the ground so the trails become rustling magic carpets.
The winter is so quiet, you can hear the snowflakes falling.

Guests have access to two great hiking trails, one a moderate shady hike in the woods, the other a rather strenuous hike to the top of Pinnacle Knob which awards a panoramic view of the Blue Ridge skyline overlooking Asheville and the surrounding area. After the hike, a nice cold dip in the pond is a wonderfully refreshing reward (or you can foregoe the hike and just relax at the pond or play in the creek).
Feel free to harvest organic vegetables from the house garden and fruit from the orchards when in season. The house has internet, phone, cards, games, a cabinet of art/craft supplies, books, an old school VCR with some vintage (mostly kid friendly) flicks and a few instruments. But mercifully, no TV.

Contact information will be provided in the event of questions or needs regarding your stay.

The neighborhood is a mountain farm community. Everyone in our cove is friendly and we all look out for one another. Should you have any problems you can feel safe to call on any of my neighbors.

There is no public transit out here. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to downtown Asheville. The nearest country store is about a 10 minute drive. The nearest supermarket is about 20 minutes away. I recommend picking up groceries on your way in.

The final stretch of the road to my house is unpaved. It's easily passable, but take it slow and exercise caution.

I am a western NC native, an organic gardener, outdoor enthusiast, amateur musician, beekeeper, "globe trotter" and proud mom. Primarily, I am an artist (painter, sculptor, printmaker). My imagery merges ancient styles and subjects with contemporary issues and/or current events. I accept commission work which can include portraiture, murals, decorative and architectural embellishments. I have been teaching art for almost twenty years, creating it for twenty more. I am committed to promoting and facilitating public art at all levels. My studio was located in Asheville's River Arts District for many years but is currently in a state of transition to the Charleston area. I love interacting with people world wide through the airbnb network, both as a host and a guest. It is a wonderful way to connect and share. I have never had a bad experience, and it brightens my faith in the good side of humanity.
