"The Annex" is located on the east side of Lake Pymatuning. The Annex consists of two bedrooms that sleep four, a living room/dining area with a queen size hide-a-bed , and one and one half baths. The Annex has a kitchen with modern appliances and cook ware. WIFI is available on a limited basis. The grounds include a picnic area and a pergola. Lake side lawn chairs and hammocks look out on a small beach and Lake Pymatuning.

Le logement

Do you like to laze about in a hammock, watching a sail boat race or scanning the sky for eagles or osprey? How about a short walk to the lake paddling a sleek touring kayak? Or maybe you would like to fish, perhaps catching your dinner? How about a cool dip in the lake? What about some alternatives to lake front activities: A walk in the woods? Chilling out on a pergola next to pond with a soothing waterfall? Or sipping a cold drink while basking in the shade in a Pauley Island hammock. Other opportunities include a drive through Amish Country, a trip to the Linesville Spillway, where "the ducks walk on the backs of fish", or day trips to the museums and sports venues in Cleveland or Pittsburgh. Close at hand is the very popular Lago Winery/Mortal Keys Brewery. Across Lake Pymatuning in Ohio are the wineries and covered bridges of Ashtabula County. Further afield, a trip to Niagara Falls makes for an exciting overnight trip. The Annex offers a variety of relaxing outdoors related opportunities...
Because of hazards posed by the lake front, a deep ornamental pond, a free running stream, and a large open woods The Annex is unsuitable for children under the age of six years.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests at The Annex have access via a short walk to a small limited-access beach on Lake Pymatuning. Kayaks are available on a restricted basis to our guests free of charge. Instruction on safe water practices are provided to all guests.
Our beach area is located across the lake from the main beach of the PA Pymatuning State park; further down the lake but still within the Park is the Jamestown Marina, where boat rentals, fishing supplies, and bait are available. There many marked hiking trails within the Park and numerous locations for lake side fishing.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

There are numerous outdoors related activities available to Annex guests.
Helen and Dean are readily available to provide information on how to best take advantage of these opportunities. Avid gardeners and outdoors enthusiasts, Helen and Dean can usually be found working or relaxing outside their home, which is adjacent to The Annex. An award winning wood carver, Dean enjoys displaying his work at an outdoor work station near the Annex. Around an evening camp fire Helen and Dean like to share stories about their on going work with slum children in India. Proceeds from the rental of The Annex go to support this work. Having traveled extensively, the Oyens are raconteurs when relating to guests tales about their travels to the far corners of the globe.

Autres remarques

The Annex is very much a "get away from it all" kind of place. We strongly encourage guests to make use of the gardens and park like setting in which The Annex is located. We discourage the intrusion of modern telecommunication on vacation time here at the lake. Accordingly, although we do offer WIFI and TV service on a limited basis and we encourage guests to leave their smart phones home/turned off for the duration of their stay. Moreover, cell phone reception in our area is very sketchy.
Because of water hazards (deep fish pond, free running stream, and lake front) and open woods, The Annex is unsuitable for children under six years of age.
Groceries, beer, wine and liquor are available in Andover, OH a ten mile drive away. Several small cafes are dotted around the lake; a listing a fine dining spots is available on request.

We had the best time at The Annex. Plenty of things to do. The only thing that you need to bring with you is your food to fill up the frig. everything else is already there. We had enough room for 4 adults and 2 children. Grilling and a fire in the evening. You can go fishing & kayaking from right there. Pymatuming State park and deer zoo very close by. Swings and horseshoes on the property for the kids or the grown-ups. Dean, Helen and Lyla are wonderful hosts!

We were pleased at the accommodations; that it was more like a cozy home than a rustic cabin. They thought of everything. The kitchen was well equipped with not only cookware & dishes, but paper goods & plastic wrap, etc. We used the charcoal grill, kyacks and campfire area. All were in excellent condition. It was a short walk to the lake; not too far to run back to the house to use the restroom or grab something to eat. The hosts were available but not intrusive. We will definitely return and hope to stay longer next time.

The Annex was very clean, nicely decorated, and comfortable. Helen and Dean were thoughtful hosts by supplying us with some chilled, purified water and a bag of ice already in the fridge. They were also accommodating for any questions or requests we had. Their property is large, and they have hammocks, swings, and chairs for your use. We really enjoyed this as well as sitting behind the Annex in privacy to eat, relax, and get some sun. Helen and Dean are open and accepting to non-traditional couples/people. They also let me charge my partial-hybrid electric vehicle while there.

We had a wonderful experience at the Annex. Everything was clean and just as described. The hosts were very welcoming, and there were many sweet personal touches to both the inside and the outside space. We especially enjoyed the use of the kayaks and hammocks down by the lake area.

Our stay at the Annex was very nice. The house was clean and the yard was well kept. Helen and Dean are lovely hosts and were courteous and friendly. They were available when we arrived and showed us around the Annex. They shared wine with us, friendly conversation, and permitted us to use their kayaks and private dock for our zodiac boat. We very much appreciated that. We enjoyed our stay at the Annex however we had a few issues. First, the wifi didn't work at all during our entire stay which was five days in length. The description of the Annex also stated that the property was lake front but it wasn't. It should be listed as lake view not lake front. In order to get to the lake, you have to walk for about five minutes and you have to walk through several of their neighbors' yards to get there. The description also stated that there was a pergola to use on the property however each time we wanted to enjoy it, Dean was usually sitting under it/napping there. We were expecting a private area to unwind while on vacation and were assured that the location was private but that wasn't the case. Finally, the description failed to mention that Dean has a workshop inside the Annex. The house appeared to have originally been a four-bedroom house however the workshop took up two of those bedrooms. Dean was in and out of the workshop constantly throughout the day/week. It made us uncomfortable at times knowing that he was in the house just behind the locked bedroom/workshop door. Often times while in the house, we didn't feel as though we could be ourselves knowing that he was right there. Since the Annex was for rent and listed as "entire house", we felt that Dean shouldn't have been using the inside workshop while we were there because we did pay to have the entire place, not a shared house. Dean also had a workshop about 20 feet from the front door of the Annex. In that workshop, Dean was found there each day using sanders and such on his wooden bowls. He often used power tools out there early in the morning. We wanted to enjoy our week off and sleep later than normal but with the noise from both workshops, it was difficult to do. We didn't feel as though we had a private trip at all. We were under the impression that the entire house and the amenities would be for our own private and personal use but that is not at all what we had experienced. The description of the property should be changed to partial house as well as shared use of amenities with the owners. Other than that, we did enjoy our time at the Annex.

Dean and Helen are great hosts. They stayed up late for our arrival, and it's a good thing because it is a little tricky finding the place in the dark. We really enjoyed relaxing by the lake, which is just a short walk from the house. We are planning to return in the fall.
