The Stables is located in pretty Dulcote village, just a short walk from Wells. Situated within the grounds of the historic Old Mill House, this contemporary cottage offers stylish living with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
The Stables, to the rear of the main house, is furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and period furniture. A large open plan living space contains an extremely comfortable squishy sofa, a 46’ flat screen TV, I-pod dock (cunningly disguised as a retro radio) and of course, Wifi. A brand new, well equipped kitchen has everything you could possible want to create a feast – and after a visit to the delectable farmers’ market in Wells, you may well want to! A stylish zinc-topped dining table completes the picture.
Beds are supremely comfortable with pocket sprung mattresses and crisp, white cotton bedlinen. There is a modern bathroom containing a bath with a shower over and underfloor heating . A second bathroom, boasting a large walk-in shower, is available for guests' private use in the winter (on request for parties of 3 or more), but is used as a communal pool shower room in the summer months.
Outside there is an enclosed area for your own private use, with decking, seating and a BBQ. The cottage is all on one level so is suitable for everyone, although there is a small step up to the front door. In the summer, guests may share our 12m outdoor heated swimming pool, situated in the walled courtyard, between the hours of 11am and 6pm. We open the pool at the start of June/May half term and close it at the end of August: Weather permitting of course! It is quite a deep pool, even at the shallow end, so is not suitable for non-swimmers or young children (sorry, NO TODDLERS or UNDER 5s).
Although we are unable to welcome under-5s, the property is great for those with babes in arms and we have a travel cot and high chair you may use. There is also a pram-friendly path that leads from Dulcote directly into Wells – just long enough to get them off to sleep! We can also arrange babysitting if you so require.
PLEASE NOTE: DURING JULY & AUGUST WE ONLY TAKE ONE WEEK BOOKINGS STARTING ON A FRIDAY.
From September till May (except bank and school holidays) our SPECIAL WEEKEND RATE includes a late check out - whenever you like on Sunday. There is a 3 night minimum stay midweek.
GLASTONBURY WEEK - 5 night min stay. We also have a 5m luxury bell tent that sleeps an extra 2 people should you be a party of 6. Please ask for rates.
A note about the Wifi : we are in a rural location and Wifi is not as good here as in a big city. We have done everything we can to boost the signal but speeds are decidely patchy.
We are in a great location for exeat visits to the following schools: Millfield Prep (15mins), Millfield (20mins), Downside School (20 mins), Wells Cathedral School (2mins), All Hallows Prep (20mins)
The following local attractions are also nearby: Bath & West Showground, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Festival Site, Kilver Court Designer Village and the Mulberry Factory Shop. Bath and Bristol are both a 45 minute drive away.
We have tried to think of everything to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible but we or our trusted friends in the village are always on hand should you need anything else.
We own a very friendly Labrador Retriever who may come and greet you when you arrive. Please let us know if this may be a problem and we will keep her inside. Note: She is NOT allowed in The Stables or in your private decked area, nor are any other dogs/pets.
We have a 3 night minimum stay midweek and 2 night minimum stay at the weekend. Please DO NOT USE INSTANT BOOK unless absolutely necessary and only if your stay starts on a Monday or Friday. Please send me a booking request and I will respond quickly, I promise!
We are delighted to welcome babes in arms and children over 5 years old. Unfortunately, the property is simply NOT suitable/safe for toddlers or under fives. No smoking in the house itself or by the pool please. No additional guests without prior approval.
The ruined mill, whilst interesting and picturesque, is dangerous in places so please do not venture inside and do please make sure your children know not to go in.

We are Mark and Maria and we moved, with our two children, to Somerset from London in 2009 and have never looked back! Our labour of love over the past 6 years has been the gradual renovation of our gorgeous Georgian Mill House and we completed The Stables in 2014. Our latest project has been the renovation of Casa Roma in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. I write interiors features for a number of home interest magazines and make lampshades. Throwing myself into country life, I also enjoy gardening (though I have a great deal yet to learn) and making jams, preserves and ice creams from our produce. My passion is for rummaging through flea markets, antique fairs and auction houses and I like nothing better than finding a clever bargain I can up-cycle! We have enjoyed every minute of refurbishing The Stables and Casa Roma and we sincerely hope we have managed to create two welcoming, unique, comfortable living spaces that are everything we ourselves would want from a holiday home.
