Michelle started out the reservation process feeling anxious and needing lots of handholding. I felt concerned that our property would not be a good match for her expectations, but did not want to cancel the reservation based only on this feeling. However, I wish that I would have cancelled. The morning after check-in, Michelle and Allan promptly complained about the unfortunate nearby construction noise and demanded that the only remedy was for me to refund her more than 50% of the rate if I did not want a negative review. As our house is already quite affordable and there is construction throughout Sayulita, I felt that her demand to reduce the rate to $35 a night was extortion. I offered to refund her the remaining nights and the cleaning fee if she was able to find another place to stay. However, she refused this offer. The following day, I had my manager assess the noise and he noted that there was construction noise, but nothing unbearable and nothing unusual for Sayulita. I also arrived the day she left and came to the same conclusion. This was also confirmed by all my prior guests as none of them complained about the construction noise. Michelle and Allan did leave the house exceptionally clean, but I would not host this guest again.
