This little cottage is a great place to stay, it's really comfortable, well put together and spotlessly clean. It has its own sunny little courtyard garden and is only a couple of steps from several pubs, cafes and shops. Central Oxford is a short bus ride away. Headington village is very pretty and quintessentially English. Peter was kind and helpful and we highly recommend it as a base for a stay in Oxford. Thanks Peter for your hospitality and see you again next time we're in Oxford!

Sweep's cottage is absolutely lovely, exactly as described and I loved every minute of my stay there! Peter and Julie were the perfect hosts and the cottage was equipped with every modern convenience. Peter was on hand to offer advice and directions on arrival which was most helpful. Easy walking distance to the John Radcliffe which was the reason for my stay. It was the perfect place to return to after a day at the hospital. I would heartily recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a little oasis on the edge of a bustling city!

If you are staying in the Oxford area, do not look any further. This is the place to stay. The couple who own the cottage are outstanding hosts and the property is great. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The cottage has recently been renovated and has almost all of the amenities you would want. There is a small kitchen with a stovetop, toaster, sink, washing machine (no dryer), microwave, refrigerator, etc. There are two bathrooms, one downstairs and one upstairs (yes, there is an upstairs). There is a small sitting area, that is very comfortable for two, including a dining table, small TV, and two very comfortable chairs. Upstairs is the bedroom with a very comfortable bed and the other bathroom (full shower, but no tub). It is very airy with lots of light, including two skylights that can be covered to keep out the morning sunlight. The shower takes a little tinkering, but worked just fine. While you do have to take stairs to get up to the bedroom, it is a very short climb. The cottage is immediately adjacent to the main house where the owners live. While it is a separate home, you are only a few steps away and they invite you to just pop in if you have a question about anything. In our case, they invited us over to tea and coffee when we arrived. The cottage is located on a well landscaped property with a lovely garden that is excellent for sitting out on a sunny day. While the cottage is right next to the street, it is not a very busy street and we never found this to be a problem unless it bothers you that you can see people when they pass by the cottage (this did not bother us). The cottage is in the town of Headington which is about a 40 minute walk to Oxford Centre. Into town is a downhill walk so you may want to talk the bus back. The bus ride is less than 10 minutes and costs only a bit more than 2 pounds (approx. $3). There is Uber service, but generally it is only available during peak hours. Other times, you can get a taxi if bus service has ended. The town of Headington is a small town, but you can find pretty much anything you need. There are good restaurants, several grocery stores, pubs, hair salons, laundry, etc. within easy walking distance. If you are coming from Heathrow or Gatwick, you an take a bus (about an hour ride) that will drop you about 2 blocks from the cottage. Assuming you don't have a lot of luggage, you can easily walk to the cottage. Part of the experience is meeting the hosts. They both clearly want this to be a great experience for their guests and go above and beyond to make it so. There were croissants and juice in the fridge when we arrived. We were greeted upon arrival...

A beautiful cottage with an interesting history and unique features. We really enjoyed our stay and Julie was very helpful and friendly - providing an extra sheet when we realised we needed it for our travel cot, letting my mum into the cottage when she turned up early to babysit for us. Plus the garden is beautiful. Thanks so much!

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay in this adorable little restored cottage. We found it to be so relaxing and comfortable for us after traveling 10 days through Scotland and Paris, we really needed to slow down for a couple of days and this was the perfect place to do so!!!

After 30 years of living and working abroad (mostly in eastern and Southern Africa), managing forestry projects, my wife, Julie, and I have returned to Oxford, which has been our base since we both studied here in the early 1980s. In the garden of our house was a derelict cottage, which we have restored during 2013: it was last lived in more than 50 years ago - by the village chimney sweep .. hence 'Sweep's Cottage'.
I still do some short-term overseas work, but our plans are to settle back into the community where our house is. Sweep's Cottage represents a part of our 'pension plan'!
