A remodeled traditional cozy Kyoto apartment.
The studio in a building built in 1973, it is very cozy with day bed/couch for single person (it is 6 feet 5 inches long). For couples, who prefer to sleep Japanese style we have futons for the tatami floor. The futon beds are also 6 feet 5 inches long and very comfortable.

It can sleep two comfortably or three good friends

Keihan line or bus takes you directly to Gion and downtown. Keihan line also goes directly to the center of Osaka and one transfer away from getting to KIX airport or to Nara. Eizan line takes to the beautiful mountain towns Kurama's out door onsen and Eizan rope way and Kibune.
If you need anything during your stay , we live right up stairs so we are around to help. We can help you plan you day and make travel and tourist suggestions that you might not find in the Tour books.
Feel free to write and ask us more about the apartment or location.
We will do all we can the help make you stay in Kyoto and Japan a memorable experience.
We have bikes free to use.
Ride the riverside bike path to the center of town or to many nearby shrines and temples.
We can help with any translation needs.

The whole apartment is yours, separate entrance, come and go whenever you want.
When you arrive in Kyoto we will be happy to meet you at the station near our place and help with your luggage and to guide you to the apartment.
If you need to check in before 1:00, and there is a guest in the apartment prior to your stay, you are welcome to come early and drop your things off and check in later. If the apartment was free the night before you can arrive as early as you want on the day of your arrival. We just need a little time to clean the place and make it comfortable for your stay.

We meet our guests when they check in and when they check out.
If we have time we will be happy to meet you at the local station and help you to the apartment with your things.
We live up stairs from the apartment so sometimes we pass going in and out. If you like, we are always happy to hang out a little and tell you what we know about Kyoto and the area. If we have time we can also give you a little bike or walking tour of the area.
If guests like to interact, we love to hear stories from folks who stay.

The neighborhood, we think is the most indicative of what life is like if you were to live in Kyoto. There are many shrines and temples within biking or walking distance, but it is not a tourist type of neighborhood. Regular friendly folks, lots of students, since we are close to Kyoto University.
When it is a hot day we walk two blocks over to the fork of the Kamogawa river to be close to the river and have a picnic under a tree. There, if you like, you can always meet some Japanese students who are happy to interact with you. A chance for you to use that Japanese you have been studying and a chance for them to practice there English or French.
And of course there is lots of public transportation near by, bus, subway, and a little train that takes you to a cable car that will fly you to the top of the mountain or take you to a small mountain village with "onsen" (outdoor soaking baths). We like our neighborhood and think it is the best in Kyoto

By bus, car, subway, cab, walking or riding a bike, we are located near enough to make it easy to get anywhere around town.
From Kyoto Station or from the Osaka KIX Airport, with only one transfer to the Keihan train line, you can come directly to Demachiyanagi Station. Located just about a 8-10 minute walk away from our place.
(Please see map in the "Guidebook" or Location" menu)
If we have time, we will be happy to meet you at the Demachiyanagi Station and help you walk with your things to the apartment.
To get around town, we of course suggest to use a bike.
Kyoto is a very friendly bike town and is pretty flat. Where we are located, you can get to almost all the major attraction by bike. A great way to get a feel for the city
The closes station is Keihan Demachiyanagi station.
From there you can go directly to the center of Kyoto, Gion neighborhood or to the center of Osaka or to a transfer point to get to historical Nara city.
You can also walk over two blocks to the main street and flag a cab. We are near the main north cab hub so they are always near.
If you prefer to walk, the river (two blocks away) has is a lovely walking/bike path that goes from one end of town to the other. Great for the morning Jogger.
Just minutes away walking, there is a good size grocery store and many restaurants.
And yes we do have parking for one car.

Our cozy, cute apartment is not the Ritz and there are many expensive Ryokan and Hotels in town, that will offer you a deluxe stay in Kyoto.... but, if you want a Kyoto Japanese experience, living like the locals in an older 1970 style traditional tatami apartment and not in the center of the tourist district, then this is a good affordable place for you. Sort of the East Village or the Williamsburg of Kyoto. College students, intellectuals, hipsters, and hippies, families with kids and sweet older residents, who remember the day when we all knew our neighbors.
Come use it as your hub, or get away, stay there undisturbed or visit and share your stories with us, we love to listen, we love to learn.
After a long day, discovering Kyoto come home to your apartment, Take a shower (there is no bathtub) have a cup of tea, warm up or cool off, and take a rest before you head out to take in some local music, a walk along the river or visit one of the close-by temples or shrines
On the day you are scheduled to check out If you want to spend that looking around Kyoto a few more hours, you can check out of the room by noon and we can hold your luggage and you can pick it up latter.
As hosts we are happy when we can fulfill your needs and make you feel at home.
