You may already be familiar with our wonderful Harbour Island but, if not, the following little gems might be useful ...

HOW TO FIND US WHEN YOU ARRIVE:

On arrival at Eleuthera Airport walk straight through and out to the front. Taxi drivers will appear from the woodwork. Choose one and he will show you to turn left to the iron gates at the end of the building. This is the point to which your baggage will be delivered. It is a 5-minute road taxi ride to Three Island Dock. At the dock there is a water taxi service across to Harbour Island. This is a ten minute ride and should cost about $5 per person. When you arrive at the Dunmore Town dock, the Sunset Harbour Estate is a 5-minute road taxi. Alternatively ask the water taxi to take you to what we now call “Dempsey dock” in Island speak. You will be at the water’s edge and can walk up to the home. If arriving by water taxi let us know in advance so that we can arrange for our Property Manager Shabba to carry your luggage up to the house. The White House is via the gate up along the full length of the concrete path up the stairs on the right 101 feet from the waters edge.

If arriving by road taxi, the entrance to the house is on the main road (Colebrook Street). You will see a white gate with a stainless steel sign “The White House – Private”. Shabba will be on hand to welcome you.


ARRIVING BY PRIVATE BOAT:

You will enter the waters between Eleuthera and Harbour Island following the deep water channel, carefully bi-passing the sandbank known as 'Girls Bank'. You will notice on your left a large square pink building on the end of a dock. This is Government Dock. Further on, by some 500 metres, is Valentines Marina with its large boats and colourful buildings. Keep going around the bay and you will pass several private docks. Sunset Harbour dock will now be straight ahead of you. It’s the largest dock between Valentines and Romora Bay. Shabba (cell phone: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)), Mr Dawson’s property manager, will be around to show you which slip you have been allocated.

TRANSPORT ON THE ISLAND:

The preferred mode of transportation on Harbour Island is via golf cart. Here is a list of rental companies and their phone numbers:

DOCTOR

If you should need a doctor during your holiday there is a government clinic located on the corner of South and Colebrook Streets as well as, a doctor and several nurse practitioners who are employed at the government clinic.

The Harbour Island Medical Clinic’s number is ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. During out of hours the on-call medical practitioner’s name and cell phone number will be posted on the clinic’s door.

YOGA / PILATES

There are several instructors on the Island. The following have been recommended:

For Massage Therapy Bob is your man - he's been Certified & Established since 1998. He can be contacted on ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). He works as Front Desk Manager part of the day at Dunmore Beach but I know he is free between the hours of 10am & 4pm. He lives just across the street & will bring all his equipment to the house so you can have your treatments in the privacy of our home.

FISHING
The waters in and around Harbour Island are known for some of best deep sea fishing in all of the Caribbean.

GROCERY SHOPPING

We recommend our guests shop at Captain Bob’s Marketplace ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) on Nesbitt Street. Captain Bob’s Marketplace is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The market offers a full assortment of groceries including Bush Brother’s Meats, Niman Ranch products, gourmet snacks, imported cheeses, ethnic foods; along with dairy and produce imported directly from The United States.


CHILDREN

The White House is a family home and great for children. We can hire in cots/cribs for babies and young children. Please let us know in advance though if this will be a requirement.

Small wooden cribs suitable for babies (42 inches long) for $8/per day
Large wooden cribs suitable for infants (56 inches long) for $14/per day
Folding cot beds suitable for up to 5 years are $12/per day

1.Electricity charges on Harbour Island are very, very expensive. Whilst the rental rate includes utility charges Guests are asked to be conscious of turning off the air conditioning when not in residence.
2.Smoking is NOT permitted inside the property. Smoking is permitted outside the home.
3.Pets are NOT allowed.
4.People other than those in the Guest party may not stay overnight in the property.

5.House parties are NOT allowed. The property is for family usage only and not for entertaining large gatherings.

6.All of the properties on the Sunset Harbour Estate are privately owned; the owners/Agents are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowner/Agent is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the Rental Party. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite onto the premises.

7.The property and all furnishings shall be kept in good order. The Guest agrees to cover the cost of any expenses, loss, or damages in connection with this rental.
8.Only use appliances for their intended uses.
9.Furnishings are not to be re-arranged in the property.
10.Appliances are not guaranteed and refunds will not be given in the event of failure. Repairs will, however, be arranged as quickly as possible by the Estate Manager.
11.The rental price includes utilities but excludes phone service. Guests are asked to bring cell phones with them because paying for calls on the house phone is complicated.
12.The Homeowner/Agent is not responsible for noise or disturbance originating beyond the boundaries of the holiday accommodation.

I have been visiting harbour island for 15 years - in 2006 we took the plunge and acquired one of the new properties on the Sunset Harbour resort - its quite a special place with a friendly environment. We have been renting it out since March 2013.
