This place is really magical, truly. It was the highlight of our two week stay in New Brunswick, Canada, and Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Canada, to stay here. There is not a thing in the house that isn't special, poetic, or just beautiful. Ken is a talented painter who has been painting for years, so it is wonderful to see his work also hung in the house. He is lovely, deeply smart, and fun. The colors in the house are aesthetically very pleasing. Each room has its own charm. Typically, neither one of us like spiral staircases, but in this case, we preferred this particular staircase to regular ones. The steps are wide and triangular which make it very comfortable for going up and down. One of our favorite things to do was to sit on the deck and drink coffee and tea in the morning and to sit out there in the evening as well. The lake can be seen from there and from the bedroom upstairs. There is a lot of peace and quiet on the property. Many birds to see, not the least bald eagles. Someone had written something about bringing flip flops for the shower, but I don't know why they wrote this, for there was no need for flip flops in the shower. There is a piano in the dining room. And there is a movie room with many videos to choose from and a big screen for viewing them. The main thing to know if you come unwind and vacation in this beautiful home is that Cape Breton is not a food place. I had read about 225 farms and artisanal cheese and yet it is very difficult to find fresh food and to buy good cheese. The saving thing is that there is a farmers market on one part of Cape Breton on Wednesday, another at another location on Saturday, and one at another on Sunday. There are no restaurants for 30-45 minutes so be prepared for that. The best thing is to bring a bunch of fresh food in if you are driving or to have it timed to stock up on Wednesday or Saturday or Sunday at the farmers markets. There is a fun brewery about 40 minutes away, Big Spruce Brewery, and many beautiful drives around Cape Breton to experience. A very rare and special place to come and be.

The house is amazing. We had a very good time there. Near Inverness, with beautiful beaches. Ken was very helpful and nice with us. We could enjoy the garden and the house. It was a pleasure to be in this place.

Ken's home is located 30 mins by car to Inverness, and has a beautiful lake view from the patio. His home is beautiful from every angle, and you could spend days exploring all the nooks and cranys finding new memories or admiring Ken's art. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone looking for a quite and scenic place to stay. We were very happy to meet Ken, and stay at his wonderful home.

After living and working for many years as an artist in Toronto, my family and I moved from the big city to beautiful Cape Breton 25 years ago. We settled in Lake Ainslie and there I built an ever growing house for my ever-growing family. The kids are now grown and I find myself spending much more time in my studio, which is a short walk from the house. I continue to spend much of each day painting, I love to travel- mostly to LA to visit my grandson, and I rarely miss listening to the opera on the radio every weekend. I hope you’ll come and discover the beauty and hospitality of our island. I am nearby and always happy to chat and share my knowledge of the local eateries, sights, beaches and galleries!
