Come and visit our beautiful, restored wagon, high on a peaceful, off-grid hill.
For walkers or cyclists, romantic breaks or retreats in nature; this is perfect for adventures or simply relaxing on the deck with a cup of tea heated by hydro power.
Cosy all year round with wood burning stove and kitchenette, it has all you need for a relaxing stay.
Holistic massage is available in the farmhouse for that added touch of luxury and relaxation, if the peace, quiet and the birdsong is not enough!

Le logement
Getting away from it all is easier than you may think, in this surprising little carriage perched on a secluded hill.
It is a unique space in many ways, but I can describe to you some of our favourites!
The carriage is on the land of a working smallholding and community. The farmhouse has several people living and sharing the garden, and we are completely off-grid, with our own fresh water supply, and self-contained small hydro system with solar backup to provide all our electricity.
The carriage itself is made from a guards wagon. Before braking could be done remotely from the engine, a guard traveled in this wagon, and would have had to manually brake all of the carriages when necessary. When technology advanced, these wagons were sold off to farmers by the railways, as well-built sheds and cabins.
This one was winched to the top of our hill and renovated, and we are very excited to be sharing it!
Ideal for retreats, romantic breaks, or for a base on a walking or cycling trip, the carriage is close enough to civilization to be convenient (the market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away) but also remote enough to really, truly relax.
I also have a treatment room in the house, so if you would like to book in for a Holistic Massage as part of your holiday, just let me know and I'll be very happy to see you.

The farmhouse who's land the carriage is on, is the only dwelling on this side of the mountain, so if peace is what you are looking for then you have come to the right place.
However civilization is close at hand!
The charming market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away, and has a vibrant community and enough shops to get you everything you need.
There are plenty of popular attractions, for example the Centre for Alternative Technology for those interested in treading more lightly, the Dyfi bike park for downhill enthusiasts is right next door, or the Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys.
We are nestled in the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, so there is plenty of exploring for walkers and cyclists to do- Cadair Idris is one of my favourite mountains and it's only 15 minutes away...

We are 1.5 miles from the A487 near Machynlleth, up a forestry track- fairly well maintained but with a smattering of potholes, for the rally driver in us all.
Full, easy directions will be sent upon booking!
There is space to park, with a short walk (1 minute) up a fairly steep hill with steps, so please consider if you can manage this before booking!
I lived up here without a car for 10 years, and it is certainly possible to manage.
Trains come regularly to Machynlleth from the Shrewsbury / Birmingham direction, and from Machynlleth there is a good bus service coming to Pantperthog. It is a 25 minute walk (again, uphill!) to get to the carriage from the bus stop.
Of course there is always the taxi- from Machynlleth it costs £10. I can provide their details upon booking.

We live off-grid!
We think this is pretty amazing, and love being self-sufficient in power and water.
But it does mean that sometimes, when it's been really dry for ages, or when things go a bit wrong, we may need to be careful with how much power we use.
Occasionally it means the peace will be broken by a couple of hours of our noisy old diesel generator charging the batteries if there has been some problem, or us using the chainsaw for a while to cut our (and your!) firewood.
It means we'll sometimes have to ask you to use the gas instead of the electric kettle, and to avoid using hairdryers or similar high power luxury items.
Apart from these rare events it shouldn't create any inconveniences, just a warm fuzzy feeling that during your stay you are having barely any impact on your environment, and a great example of how the eco lifestyle can work!
Good outdoor shoes or wellies, and slippers are also a good idea as I do provide some but your own may be preferable.

Accès des voyageurs
The carriage is all yours. With a generous decking area outside and glass doors that swing open onto a breathtaking view, it feels more spacious than you might expect from its modest proportions!
You are free to roam the land, explore the garden and make friends with my poultry. We are surrounded by National Resources Wales land which can provide hours of exploring potential, and I'll be very happy to point you to some of my favourite walks.
The carriage has its own composting toilet just outside, where you can make your contribution to our lovely, fertile soils.
The shower is in an outdoor cubicle and is used only by guests staying in the carriage.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide disabled access due to the nature of the landscape.

Very occasionally it means the peace will be broken by a couple of hours of our noisy old diesel generator charging the batteries as a last resort, but this is very rare.

- Tea, coffee, sugar provided, all organic and fair-trade.
- Cooking utensils and a 2-ring gas hob WITHOUT grill or oven.
- there is a small fridge with a tiny freezer compartment
- Hot water bottle provided.
- In the colder months there is a dual control electric blanket on the bed- powered by hydro - so you are guaranteed to be cosy even in the depths of winter!
- Sometimes the RAF practice round here, so it's always possible you'll be unlucky /lucky (depending how you feel about jets looping around), look up the 'Mach loop'
- In certain weather conditions there can be a lot of midges here, especially at dawn and dusk. I provide mosquito repellent and citronella candles, and there is a fire wok on the decking so that you can try and keep them away.
- I recommend bringing sturdy outdoor footwear, and slippers in the colder months.
- If you'd like to borrow bikes, it can usually be arranged. Let me know in advance your height and we'll make sure there's one about.
- My final request is that you don't surprise a member of your party with a trip here! It is quite quirky and I really insist that everyone who's coming knows what they're letting themselves in for! Thank you!

Pendant votre séjour
I try to be here to welcome guests, but in the event that I am working somewhere other than at home or busy being a mum, I will leave detailed directions for you and will be contactable by phone (I'm a massage therapist, so can't always answer immediately, but can call between treatments in the event that you need guidance while I'm giving a treatment).
There will almost always be somebody available to answer questions or help you during your stay, though it will be absolutely your own choice whether you engage with us or not- if you'd prefer to have your own space then that is exactly what you will get.
In the event we are all going to be out, I will be contactable by phone.
