Description

Our 282-square-foot house is a ten-minute walk from downtown Missoula, a ten-minute bike ride to the University of Montana and is nestled in Missoula's eclectic Northside neighorhood. Open, bright and roomy, 282 is perfect for your stay in Missoula.

A few years ago, we built a tiny house in Missoula, Montana. We call it 282 because the space is 282 square feet of bright, clean, open space. Our family of four lived in 282 for two years and we found tiny living quite comfortable. We have since moved into the main residence on the property and want to share our tiny living experience with others who are visiting our lovely mountain town. Recently updated, 282 offers one queen-sized bed and one fold-out, full-sized bed perfect for children. The space can accommodate four people (two adults and two children, for example) or two adults quite comfortably. 282 is a studio with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, sink, etc.) and one bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. If you’re a leisurely showerer, just know that our water tank accommodates one 20 minute shower or several shorter ones- that’s tiny living for you! It is completely stocked with dishes, pots, pans, a coffee maker and towels. It has a kitchen table and french doors that open onto a small patio. There is WiFi, and a small television with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and PBS, though no cable. The house is separated from the main residence by a privacy fence and has its own entrance. Our backyard has garden beds and benches and is available for your use. Children can enjoy our monkey bars, swings and small climbing wall.

We live onsite and are happy to help answer any questions about swimming holes, restaurants serving local food or where to find the best latte in town.

282 is a ten-minute walk to downtown Missoula, a ten-minute bike ride (20-minute walk) to the University of Montana and is nestled in Missoula's eclectic Northside neighborhood. The Northside is a short bike ride to Greenough Park, the Rattlesnake trailhead and the Clark Fork River. Full of artists, writers and filmmakers, the Northside has a brewery, an art's center and, in summer, an outdoor cinema. The neighborhood is on the register of national historic places and was once home to German, Italian and Asian immigrants. For many years it was the working-class heart of Missoula where residents worked in either the local saw mill or for the railroads. Today, the Northside is full of young families, hip millennials and longtime residents. Over the past ten years, the neighborhood has grown with new, modern-looking houses popping up all over creating a mix of historic homes and newly built ones tucked into tree-lined streets. In keeping with its working class roots and the rise of company towns in the early part of the last century, houses on the Northside are built close together, which makes being a good neighbor an important characteristic of any Northsider. We love our neighborhood and we hope you will too!

We have public transportation a few blocks away and our close-in location allows you to walk downtown.

Fabulous home. I was craving some peace and a quiet sanctuary and the owners respected my need to be alone yet I knew they were close by if I needed anything. I will be back.

My husband and I moved to Missoula 14 years ago for a one-year job in a van packed with books. We never left. We've lived on a farm surrounded by fallen down fences where we had our two daughters. We've lived in the heart of Missoula in a tiny house with our daughters, two dogs and a wayward bunny. After two amazing years of living tiny, we've moved out of our 282 square-foot house and want to share it. We love our town, our community and our home. We hope you will too.
