Our home in Sheep Ranch, CA, perched in the mountains above Murphy's, has provided our family with a true retreat from the pulse of our Bay Area city life. The house is straw bale and is truly beautiful. It sits on 55 acres in the Sierra Foothills. We are artistic, creative people and often use our home as a retreat to both work in AND to unwind. Come experience this special place and be inspired, as we are, by the beauty of Gold Country.
Our home is a straw bale, energy efficient home. Its a really creative and beautiful space. Its a two bedroom, two bath house, and one of the bedrooms is a bunk room that sleeps 8. We have a guest cottage on the cabin with a queen bed that sleeps 2. The main living environment is open floor plan and there is a dining table that seats 8 or more people and a full equipped kitchen and two main living areas. The house has a wrap around porch with lots of places to sit, read, watch the sunset and relax. We have a deck off the porch that houses a hot tub and a large outdoor seating area. Our pool is right below the house and there is a patio and grill beside the pool for hanging out, star gazing and enjoying warm days. Our cabin is located about 50 yards from the main house. It has an indoor sink, a composting toilet and an outdoor tub and shower.

The property is 55 acres and is full of hiking trails, streams, and we even have old mine shafts on our land. Its a unique place to get away to. While the views are amazing, guests should know that our property was recently impacted by the Butte fire. There are many burnt trees on the property and we are in the process of clearing our land. Still, the natural beauty of the place shines through.

We will be available by phone and email, but we will not be there during your stay. We do have a cleaning lady that can help you with any of your needs if something should arise while you are renting with us. Her name is Josephine and we will contact her if needed. We are also friends with our neighbor whose property is adjacent to ours. We can contact him to help you with anything you might need during your stay with us.
Our home is a remote place. We live a mile off of a paved road, and our private driveway is dirt and almost half a mile long. When you come here, you are really getting away from it all. We are 20-25 minutes away from Murphys, 15 minutes away from Mountain Ranch, and 30 minutes from Arnold. Bear Valley Ski resort is an hour away. Yosemite is 2.30 hours away. There are lots of things to do in our area, so please contact me if you want suggestions of things to do if you don't want to spend your time entirely at our house. My guess is that you won't want to leave once you get there though.
We have a shoes off home and we ask that you respect that rule. We do not allow cats. While dogs are allowed PLEASE do not let them get on the furniture - you HAVE to bring a dog bed and you cannot leave your dog unattended in the house if they are normally allowed on furniture at home. Our 55 acres abut another property that is 150 acres and we share many trails. Please respect our neighbors and do not bring your dogs near their home while off leash since they have numerous animals on the property. We live in fire country so you HAVE to be mindful of that. There is a fire awareness card in the hanging folder near the front door. We ask that you read it. If you have to smoke, please do so outside and make sure all your butts are put out and disposed of in the trash. We have a NO SMOKING policy inside the house. Lastly, we have a set of rules next to the front door that we ask that you read when you check in that pertain to our house and how we like our house to be shut down before leaving.
