Le logement

Enjoy a light-filled retreat in the Berkeley Hills. Directly above UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, the Gourmet Ghetto (North Berkeley restaurant mecca), and the wonderful trails and attractions of Tilden Park.

Our home is a light-filled open-plan mid-century modern. Very comfortable, both tree-filled and expansive views, with decks front and rear off the living room. Propane BBQ in front, and serene breakfast table with great views in back. There is a lower level deck with an inset modern, ozone hot tub surrounded by our organic garden, honeybees and greenscape! There is a chicken coop on the side of the house, Our neighbors will take care of the chickens. If they are laying, ( Spring/Summer) you will get some fresh eggs! The kitchen is modest but open to the living area and has everything you need. We are environmentally mindful. All of our linens and the King and twin bed mattresses are organic. We use eco-sensitive cleaning products. We have cans to recycle and compost almost everything.

Up a half-flight of stairs are two bedrooms, which each sleep two comfortably, and a bathroom with shower/tub.

One of the best features of the house is easy access to fantastic trails in Tilden Park and Strawberry Canyon. Literally 100 yards away are great hiking, running and mountain bike trails. We take our dog on long off-leash walks on them every day and she loves it!

We are also very close to awesome kids attractions like the Lawrence Hall of Science (kids science museum - 5 minute walk), and the Steam Trains narrow-gauge railroad, Tilden Carousel, and Little Farm petting zoo (5-10 minute drives). Beautiful Tilden Park Golf Course, with it's Grizzly Bar and Grill, is a two-minute drive. Public transit goes right by the house for car-free access down the hill to Berkeley.

Our garden is our oasis. Young fruit trees, berry bushes, vegetable beds and a friendly honey bee hive in our back yard. We hope that you enjoy the serenity. During honey harvesting season we will be happy to share some backyard honey with you!

We do live here (we are traveling during the time the house is available), so while we will make some limited space available in dressers and closets, be aware that our belongings will be in the house. Please enjoy our house and respect our belongings.

We are accommodating to well behaved dogs, but will charge $30 per night extra for each dog you want to bring. There is 1 large dog bed available. We have a pet contract to cover any additional damage that could occur.

All the neighbors have lived here for decades, and are very quiet and helpful.

Free wireless, working fireplace, and did I mention a fabulous hot tub?

Hi, great place to stay with our three kids. They had a great time playing with the toys in the house, in the jacuzzi and in the nearby forest. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. All perfect.

This is a truly wonderful place in the Berkeley Hills. Immediately close to Tilden Park, 5min walking to the Lawrence Hall of Science, and just a nice walk downhill from the UC campus (and up again ;=). The house is beautifully decorated, spacious, and has all amenities one would wish for / need. The bay view from the deck is very nice. Tom and Carrie are great hosts, provided for all things we required and were always available for any questions. Thanks a lot to them, it was a wonderful time at their place!

Tom and Carrie have a beautiful, cozy home in the Berkeley Hills. They waited up to greet us and gifted us with wine and scones. Tom was super patient and was very kind to our kids, showing us the chickens and the honey bees and explaining everything about the house. The house itself is lovely -- a big open great room open to the kitchen. The two upstairs bedrooms were perfect four our family (2 parents, 3 kids ages 9, 6, 4). The views are spectaular -- my 4 year old stopped mid-whine when we arrived home late one evening to exclaim, "Look at the beautiful city!" to me as he looked out to the view of the Bay. Our kids loved the live chickens, honey bee colony, and trampolite. The hot tub is very inviting although due to the weather, we ended up not using it this trip. The AC Transit 65 bus stops not far from the house. There's also a path that goes from the path behind the house down to Lawrence Hall of Science, where you can catch a bus down to the UC Berkeley campus. We would definitely stay here again.

We had such a great time here! Close to incredible hiking trails and Tilden's steam train. Our daughter LOVED hanging out the bevy of chickens in the backyard. Beds were very comfortable and kitchen well-equipped. Highly recommend.

We were welcomed with a clean, well-equipped house and a bottle of wine. the hummingbird feeder was full and there were lots of beautiful hummingbirds. Very tranquil setting - and close to the wedding in Tilden Park. Beautiful!

We stayed at the house with our two kids (14&12) for a week at the end of August after touring the Southwest in an RV. The handover was really easy. 15 minutes explanation and Tom and his family left on vacation. The house was just as described and photos are accurate. They left enough space for us and even allowed us to use their food. Via Fish Ranch Rd and Hwy 24 you are quickly connected to everything. We were a bit unlucky with the weather. Summer in the Bay Area is cold and the fog was in every day. So no great views. But we still had a great time and did a lot of day trips to the city, to Marin, to Napa, to see friends in the South Bay, etc. We only used the hot tub twice (it's hot!) but it was convienient and easy as it was on all the time. We can highly recommend this place! The Keudels from Germany

Our family spent an amazing month living in this beautiful home in the Berkeley Hills. We recommend it highly, especially for those who love hiking, golf, and expansive views of the scenic Bay Area. Tom was an extremely helpful and gracious host, respecting our privacy but also responding quickly to any questions that arose. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and contained all the supplies we needed for cooking and daily living. We would definitely stay here again!

My wife Carrie and I live in the hills of Berkeley, California. I am a scientific engineer and she is a professional photographer. We love outdoor activities such as cycling, skiing/snowboarding, surfing, hiking, camping, and gardening. We appreciate and cook good food and love great wine, beer and coffee.
We have a 3.5yr old and 1.5yr old. We are busy learning the magical, fun and sometimes difficult art of raising kids. We also have a dog, Meira, who loves the local trails almost as much as we do! Please tell us about yourself in your profile. Cheers!
