Welcome to Sunhill Ranch! This private home is just 10 minutes from the The 78 & I-15 freeways. We are centrally located to many attractions and the beach. Miles of hiking are right out the front door, or walk our orchards. We also have a Studio Cottage available that sleeps 2-3 and has its own kitchen and bathroom. Welcome to Sunhill Airbnb, we’re glad you took the time to give us a look. Sunhill Ranch is a working Agricultural Ranch located in Vista, California – considered one of, if not the best climates in the World (Average yearly temp 69* with over 340 sunny days a year.) We farm mostly Limes and Avocados. We do however have many other rare fruits including Star Fruit, Guava, Cherimoya, Sapota, Fig, Dragon Fruit, Loquat, Passion Fruit, Cactus Apple & Persimmon. We also commercially grow Palm Trees. Sunhill Ranch has been in continuous operation since 1960.
Sunhill is a large, very private and secluded property encompassing nearly 40 acres. Although we are out in the country we are centrally located and have all the major necessities nearby. We are 10 minutes from either I-15 or The 78 freeway (Sycamore or Civic Center exits.) There are major supermarkets including Vons or Stater Brothers within 10 minutes. Target, Walmart and many take-away restaurants are also in the 10 minute drive. Vista is considered the largest and fastest growing Craft-Brewery city in the Nation with over 15 breweries just minutes away from Sunhill. In under 30 minutes you can reach the beach, Lego Land, and the San Diego Wild animal Park. And within an hour you can reach Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Tijuana (Baja Mexico,) and Disneyland in about an hour and a half, traffic permitting.
Our Airbnb listings are for the Main House area which has the main house along with pool and garden areas. There is also a studio cottage next to the Main House that can be added to the main house rental for an additional fee if available, or rented separately. All other homes on the 40 acre property are currently rented long term.
The Main House is nearly 2500 square feet consisting of two bedrooms, two baths, a large great room, a Den/Library, a lounge room and large kitchen including laundry facilities. The home was originally built in 1947 and has undergone one addition/remodel.
This home has been my family home for many years and is now being offered for short term rental. My father, a retired pilot for Pan American Airlines, lived here for 53 years and I grew up in the home. I am now in the process of bringing the home back to its original condition. The interior of the home is in excellent condition, with new high-end appliances, and many other top quality amenities. The exterior needs a little TLC which I am tending to, time and budget permitting. We just completed phase one of the exterior painting project and have new grass growing on the front lawn. Some new outdoor lights have been added as well. We are so pleased with the improvements and will continue with the next phase of outdoor painting and landscaping soon.
In addition to wireless internet, three new "smart" DVD players were installed.
The Master Bedroom is very large and has a new Eastern King bed, walk-in closet with plenty of space to store your things. A flat-screen TV is also included, along with a wicker chair for lounging. There are plenty of windows that provide a nice breeze and views of the pool and the coastline.
The second bedroom is also large and contains a bunk bed with a full on the bottom and a single on top and a separate queen bed. Additional chairs are also included for lounging.
All bedrooms and the Great Room have ceiling fans. There isn't currently Cable TV, but over the air HD TV is provided and the major networks are available and can be currently watched in the Great Room and the Master Bedroom. The high speed wifi is plenty fast to stream from NetFlix. I'm in the process of connecting the other TV's and making sure they're compatible.
The Master Bath is located next to the two bedrooms and has a walk-in shower, a large bathtub and toilet. The second full bath is located next to the kitchen and has a walk-in shower and toilet.
The Great Room contains a large rustic table with seating for 6-10 (if leaves are installed.) Plenty of additional sitting, including a leather couch and chair set. There is also a regulation pool table for your enjoyment. The pool cues are stored in the closet by the front door. This room includes a large flat-screen TV/DVD and game system. The entire room looks to the West and has amazing sunset and Island views, (Santa Catalina and San Clemente Islands can be viewed.) There is also a large fireplace.
The Lounging Room is between the Great Room and the Kitchen, it also has a West view of the islands and the view is just amazing. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the view or read a book. A daybed is planned in the near future and will be reflected in the description once added.
The Den is an old-school library with fine wood paneling, large desk, large flat-screen TV/DVD, and lounging chairs. This is where we have a nice collection of reading material and a selection of board games. There is also a wall of windows that looks to the East toward the hills. Amazing sunrises can be seen from here as well as the occasional wildlife sighting including deer, bobcat, mountain lion, coyote, rabbit and a variety of birds (Eagles, Falcons, Quail, and many others.)
The Kitchen is quite large and includes a dining table with seating for 6 or 8 depending if the leaves are inserted. There is a new large double oven, quiet dishwasher, and an electric four burner stove-top located on the island. A large fridge and plenty of cupboard space provide all the storage you may need for even the largest of dinners. There is also a fresh water filter system providing purified water.
Just a quick walk outside and you can’t miss the near Olympic size pool (nearly 25 meters by 20 ft wide.) There is also a small pool that is isolated from the rest of the pool for the little ones. You’ll find plenty of lounging, sitting and table area at the pool. There is a fence and gate that will also keep the little ones out and safe. Between the house and pool is a large yard with plenty of room to throw the ball, play Bocche, or throw a Frisbee.
Next to the large parking area is a Sun Deck with tables and chairs (seating for 12.) Enjoy cooking on the Webber BBQ and/or watching the sunset or taking in the views to the coast.
As I stated before, this isn’t a newly built home. It’s a Ranch Style home that was built in the late 40’s and comes with a lot of charm. The windows are a mixture of old-school hand crank and sliding aluminum windows, and provide a wonderful breeze when the windows are open. We're planning to have most windows replaced by the end of the summer. The plumbing is great and the hot-water heater provides an ample supply.
There are plenty of walking trails nearby, including miles of roads to hike here on the Ranch. Maps are provided once you arrive. If you have any questions please visit our F B Page and take a look. When renting the Main House at Sunhill you'll have access to a variety of areas. The entire Main House will be yours except for the wet bar and a locked closet that I keep my personal items in. The front yard and pool area are all yours. The cottage off the kitchen is is also available for rent. The full time tenant in the Lower Cottage, 50 yards away, also has pool access but rarely uses the pool. You are free to walk the entire Ranch. There are thousands of trees, many animals and wildlife. There are also many hiking/running trails out the back of the Main House area. A map is provided once you arrive. As mentioned, please don't pick any fruit as many aren't in season and some areas have been leased out and the fruit itself is property of the Lessor. I am working on arranging a guided tour with fruit tasting, but I'm not quite there yet. There will be fresh fruit from the Ranch waiting for you in the kitchen upon your arrival.

As I'm an International Pilot, I may be unreachable when you have questions. I do however have an Ops Manager on the Ranch that will be able to answer any questions and give suggestions for places to go, eat, and enjoy yourselves. The Ranch Operations Manager, Kristin, is typically available by phone or email. She's happy to meet you at check-in (schedule permitting) to answer any questions. I also have a Ranch Foreman, Raul, who lives on property. You may see him doing some watering or cleaning up nearby. But he won't be in the area before 9am or after 4pm. A contact sheet will be available for you when you arrive.
Below are some of the House Rules and things to keep in mind:

•The Upper Guest Cottage is next to the kitchen, please give the residents staying there their privacy as they will do the same for you.
•The swimming pool area is unsupervised, there is no lifeguard provided. This area is shared with the occupants of the Upper and Lower Cottages if occupied.
•Sunhill is a working Ranch and persons may be working in the groves during daylight hours. The times of yard work will be made known to our guests and will not occur before 9am and will be completed by 4pm.
•There are no outside fires of any kind due to the Fire Hazard of the area. Fires inside in the fireplaces are only to be made by a person that is familiar with making fires. Firewood is NOT to be collected or used. If you wish to purchase firewood from Sunhill please let us know or you can purchase in town.
•The Sun Deck near the parking area is for the use of the Main House Guests only.
•There are rocky, slippery, and uneven surfaces on The Ranch, please wear appropriate shoes or boots and only walk within your limits.
•Sunhill Ranch and Sunhill Airbnb takes no liability or responsibility for our Guests health and safety when walking in the nearby areas. Please be mindful this is the country and there are snakes and wild animals present.
•Do not attempt to pick up or handle any animals, wild or domestic.
•Please do not pick any fruit. Sunhill will provide a fruit basket of the fruits in season.
•It is illegal to sublet or allow others to use the rented homes or areas. The presence of a film crew will be cause to notify Police and you may forfeit the remainder of your stay.
•The theft of fruit is a felony and may be treated as such. If you would like to take something, please take pictures only.
•Please treat my home as if it were yours, I have many collected items from around the World that mean a lot to me and I’d appreciate it if they weren’t handled.

I'm an international airline pilot and have covered most of the planet sans Africa (yet.) I live in So Cal w/ my family of 4 (Coral 12 & Miles 9.) I also have a Ranch in North San Diego County (Available for rent here @ Airbnb) that grows many different fruits and palm trees for commercial sale. Thanks in advance for allowing us to enjoy your homes, we very much appreciate it!!
