A wonderful relaxed cafe with full cooked breakfasts, light lunches and great drinks and cakes. The staff are lovely and creative folks who cater for Vegetarians and Vegans really well - I recommend the Vegan full house breakfast [only before 11.30am!]. They close most days at 4pm...

Our favourite 'Indian' restaurant in Bideford. Easy to pop over the bridge in 5 mins for a delicious takeaway. The food is actually mostly Bangladeshi and not high in salt and oil like most similar restaurants.

Based at Westward Ho! this restaurant/ cafe/ bar has absolutely stunning views across the bay and the north devon coastline. Even if you just go for a drink at sunset or a cuppa tea get a window seat. Great for larger groups but may need to book ahead in good weather!

Absolutely stunning beach when the tide is out... At the far end is a beautiful nature reserve - well worth the walk along the beach.

Absolutely stunning beach when the tide is out... At the far end is a beautiful nature reserve - well worth the walk along the beach.
A beautiful little sandy beach overlooking the traditional port of Appledore opposite and boat moorings, with cafes and restaurants to stop for snacks and tea etc. You can easily bicycle or walk from our house to Instow without crossing road the whole way! Just turn right outside the house and head along the Tarka Trail for 20-30 mins travelling alongside the river nearly all the way. A lovely and easy half day trip.

Ignore the map...its outside our front door!. This is a 50 mile car-free route popular with hikers, bicyclers and runners. If you turn left its 25 miles into mid-Devon. Just a 10 min walk this way you will find a beautiful marshland nature reservation alongside the river and further up a wonderful view from the old iron bridge. If you turn right its 25 miles towards Barnstaple and beyond. Win - Win!
You will find a railway cafe every 4/ 5 miles along this route the whole way. [Most close about 4pm].
If you fancy renting a bike head left and walk 5 mins - you will see the bike hire place to your right - reasonable and easy to do.

Torridge HillIgnore the map...its outside our front door!. This is a 50 mile car-free route popular with hikers, bicyclers and runners. If you turn left its 25 miles into mid-Devon. Just a 10 min walk this way you will find a beautiful marshland nature reservation alongside the river and further up a wonderful view from the old iron bridge. If you turn right its 25 miles towards Barnstaple and beyond. Win - Win!

You'll need a car but its worth the 30 min drive there to see the fabulous geological rock formations and walk the stunning coastal path heading towards cornwall. This area is wild and rugged so plan for all weathers!

Lovely arts and craft gallery with visiting art exhibition, a long term museum of Bidefords history upstairs, and a fantastic crafts gift shop. At the back is a fabulous french cafe run by 2 french guys who love their food. Occasionally they host music and food nights too.
