I selected museum as The Biltmore House is a must see and a great day trip. The house is one of the largest in the country and is still privately owned, yet open to the public. There is so much history and very interesting. They decorate according to the seasons and Christmas is a gorgeous time to go.

The Oconaluftee Visitor Center has a wonderful old village of how life used to be. Authentic buildings and also a great place to see the elk come out of the woods to feed in the evening. The Visitor Center building has a lot of displays with history of the area.
