Sightseeing

Anyone intending to visit Tuscany can only go from Florence: the city of the lily is a treasure trove of artistic treasures and a center of fervent vitality. In addition to the exceptional heritage of art, testimony of its centuries-old civilization, you can enjoy Florence walking at sunset along the enchanting lungarni, going through the bohemian alleys of Oltrarno or getting lost in the streets of San Niccolò, where walking along the ancient walls will seem to end up as if by magic in another age.

Siena is seen from afar to shine perfect in its medieval equilibrium. The three hills on which it sits stand out in an idyllic rural landscape, in which the boundaries of the old center fade like a time in a countryside that at times still seems to be portrayed in the Allegory of Good Government painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the rooms of the Palace Public. Siena, untouched for centuries, is today shown to a large extent as it appeared in 1300, and the preservation of a unique and coherent medieval architectural heritage is one of the main reasons for visiting a splendid city, long aware of the fragility of its equilibrium.

Perhaps not everyone knows that Arezzo is an ancient city, older than Alexandria in Egypt! To know it, it's worth talking a bit about your past. Arezzo was one of the major Etruscan lucumonies and later became a strategically important Roman center, center of flourishing economic activities and rich in monuments - including the Amphitheater (of which important remains remain). At that time, its foundries and the artistic factories of "corallini" vases (red paintings) were renowned, whose decoration technique spread throughout the Roman world.

In many people in Tuscany consider Lucca almost a foreign body, "it is not Tuscany" it may happen to hear from some Florentine that perhaps refers to bread (which is salty in Lucca), to the language (with a singular vocabulary) or to the fact (which contributes to explain the other two) that Lucca is the only city-state in the region to have retained its independence until 1847. The singular historical fact has made Lucca a sort of beautiful fortified island, which preserves inside - as opposed to what someone would want - a real kaleidoscope of the best that can be found in an ancient Tuscan city.

The key stage of a trip to Tuscany has always been Pisa and its Piazza dei Miracoli, and despite the presence of the many tourists from every corner of the world seem to have come here to try, with the help of perspective, to keep the leaning tower, the place is however able to give off a timeless, evocative and powerful beauty.

Parks & Nature

The Vallombrosa Forest is one of the most famous green areas in Italy. When the monks settled in Vallombrosa in the eleventh century, there were already forests of white fir and beech trees. The care of the forests was one of the concerns of the abbots who, from the timber and the breeding of sheep, drew much of the resources necessary for the life of the Abbey.
