Food Scene

If you want authentic New Mexican and don't want to travel too far, El Patio is your place. Try anything with green chile, and don't forget the sopapillas!

This was the first place we ate at when we moved to Albuquerque--and it sure set the bar high! Great for breakfast and brunch (they serve Intelligencia espresso!), as well as folks with food restrictions. We recommend the smoked salmon, croque madame, breakfast sandwich--really, everything is good!

Amazing Asian fusion food. We love it because it offers gluten-free options, but also because its just really dang good. We love the coconut curry and Mongolian beef. Be careful though--the chef is known to have a heavy hand when it comes to spice!

OMG PIZZA. Unfortunately, Albuquerque does not offer much in the way of delivery, but Il Vicino is worth the trek. Again, gf options so Natalie is a fan; however, it's one of ABQ's favorite pizza spots for a reason. The Truffalo is amazing (and incredibly rich) and we've heard the olio piccante is a must-try.

If you went in cold, it'd be hard to believe their menu is entirely vegan as they offer a lot of delicious meat substitutes (beef, chicken, shrimp) in addition to tried-and-true tofu. And the pineapple fried rice is to-die!

Okay so there are like twelve Greek places in a 3-block radius on Central. We've tried all of them, and Yasmine's is our favorite for the price and quality of food. The dolmas and lamb shawarma are our favorite. You'll have to ask for tzatziki as they don't automatically include it (however, the yogurt sauce they do include is amazing).

What Albuquerque lacks in coffee roasters, Espresso Fino makes up in a single shot of espresso. The owner is absolutely obsessed with making the perfect cup, and will brew you shot after shot until he gets it right. Perhaps that's where he got the name--it's the last espresso you'll ever need! Be prepared to wait, but know it's worth it.

Probably one of the best (and only) roasters in Albuquerque. We typically get our beans here, and if you're lucky, we provided you with some for your morning coffee. Much less of a wait here than Espresso Fino, but sort of out of the way if you're hoping to hop onto the interstate out of town.

Sightseeing

Beautiful trip up to the top of the Sandias. On a clear day (which includes 280 days per year) you can see all of Albuquerque. Tickets are $25 ($20 for seniors and children under 12). The best day to go is on Tuesday, when there is hardly any wait. But dress warm--it's a 30 degree difference at the top!

The Breaking Bad carwash! You can't miss it--the giant barn-shaped car wash Walter White worked at is located on the east side of Albuquerque right off Menaul Blvd.

Okay so we put this on here because everybody wants to know about the Breaking Bad Tours. We know of two, and one is offered through ABQ Trolley Co. (the other is called the Breaking Bad RV Tour). Neither are cheap at $75 a pop, so another option is to do it yourself (e.g., https://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/southwest/albuquerque/travel-tips-and-articles/a-do-it-yourself-breaking-bad-tour-of-albuquerque)

Entertainment & Activities

Great for the kids, but super fun for adults, too! Check out the rose garden (Albuquerque has great soil for roses, which is why you see them everywhere practically year-round). The BioPark also holds events and exhibits that everyone can enjoy, such as summer concerts and River of Lights.

Drinks & Nightlife

New Mexico, and Albuquerque specifically, is quickly becoming one of the highest ranked states for craft brewing. As of 2015, we were ranked 11th in the country, with 3.1 breweries per capita and growing. Marble is one of many local favorites, with three locations (the closest is the downtown location marked here). Tours are free, and take place on Saturdays at 2 PM.

Super swanky lounge located on top of the Parq Central hotel. Great views of the city night and day. Incredible drinks (which change regularly, so it is difficult to recommend one) and carne adovada tacos (you won't want to share).
