Shopping

A New England style shopping village dropped into the British landscape and nicely done, with all the big brands at discount prices. Go early ie 10:00 am, or late - after 5:00 pm to avoid the crowds. This is especially true at weekends.

City experience

Only half an hour a way, it would be a shame to miss Oxford with its museums, wonderful buildings and colleges, botanical garden, library and parks. You can book College tours on certain days. On sunny summer days pack a picnic and rent a punt at Magdalen Bridge or at the Cherwell Boat House. Many decent places to eat too from the Parsonage Hotel to Gees, the Old Bank Hotel to Brown’s.

Just 10 miles away, the Market Town of Thame is a far more pleasant experience than Aylesbury. A proper market (on market days), butchers, bakers, delis and other shops as well as Waitrose and several restaurants.

The Rothschild owned hotel in the centre of Waddesdon. A bit pricy. Best when busy or it’s a bit lonely.

This is pub is known for its excellent food (Michelin Rosette - one of less the 150 awarded in the country); arguably the best in the area - and at pub prices. It’s small, but comfortable and it has an outside garden space. 15 minute drive away.
