Sightseeing
Mount Royal is the highest point in the city (232m/761 ft). The mountain is surrounded by a large park that offers hiking/running/cross-country skiing trails, tennis courts, volleyball, picnicking, sledding, and more. You can walk to the base of the mountain in 10-15 minutes (turn right after exiting the apartment. At the corner, on Mount Royal Avenue, turn left and continue walking until you hit the mountain). If you turn left once you hit Av. du Parc, you will come to the monument, where you can hear the Tam Tams on Sundays. Once at the park, there is a multi-use path which winds up to the top where there is a scenic lookout over the entire city. There are also smaller, steeper hiking trails.
To get to the other lookouts and to Beaver lake, which are on the other side of the mountain, you can take the #11 bus which stops at the corner of Mount Royal Avenue and St Laurent (turn right after exiting the apartment. At the corner, on Mount Royal Avenue, turn left and walk one block to St. Laurent)
