Nature, adventure, sports and food: Leigh has a real mix of experiences waiting for you! Situated on the Matakana Coast in the northern region of Auckland, Leigh is famous for its marine life found at the Goat Island Marine Reserve. The reserve, with snorkelling, clear kayaking and glass-bottom boating available, is a destination in itself but there’s more to discover in this little coastal town!

Ti Point boasts an exceptional reptile park. There are lots of NZ native lizards, including the amazing tuatara, a rare lizard whose lineage goes back to dinosaurs. Turtles, tortoises, chameleons, iguanas, lizards and an American alligator can also be spotted.
There are great fishing spots off the Ti Point wharf and from here is the starting point for a very good coastal walkway. Meander through farmland and along beaches, past ancient pohutakawa and strange rocky outcrops to the scenic reserve at the end. A perfect spot for a picnic! The walkway will provide you with stunning views out towards Omaha and out to Kawau Bay.

Neighbourhoods
Whangateau is a step back in time - Europeans settled here in 40 acre blocks around 1892 and all trade (mostly produce and kauri gum) was by sea.
The beautiful, little historic Whangateau Hall sits proudly at the edge of the rugby grounds and has regular folk music concerts each month and are a great night out! Whangateau has an excellent Holiday Park, which sits right on the waters edge and offers visitors quality surrounds for a very reasonable price. On top of the hill nearby is a cemetery with some of the early settlers graves.
