Pack a picnic for a great morning activity for the whole family. Drive up the mountain--sunrise point and sunset point on the way up are perfect if you can time them right! At the top is a parking area with picnic facilities. Try the Rhododendron trail including the spur to Luther Rock for amazing views! There are no railings so keep an eye on the kids out at the rock. Then hike back to the tables for your picnic lunch. Perfect!

This is a beautiful state park a short drive away. Many aspects to explore but the highlight is Rhododendron Trail, where there is a great likelihood of seeing the wild ponies that roam the park.

Not as developed as West Jefferson, but there is a beautiful river front park, Lansing Creeper Trail park. Pie on the Mountain pizza restaurant is delicious! Check to see if the Molley Chomper hard apple cidery has finished construction on their new tasting room!
