For a small fee, you can park in a field high above the sea. From here you can walk down a rarely used tarmac access road towards the Start Point lighthouse. If you're feeling adventurous you can vire off to the right, along the South West Coastal Path, although a gentle warning; this is not for the faint-hearted, there are some fairly hairy parts of the path where it is close to some long drops down to the sea. Start Point can be very windy but if you do venture along the coastal path you will be rewarded with incredible vistas and possible sightings of the local seals. You will also pass the marvelous Matiscombe beach which is worth a visit if you can manage the steep path down, or you can continue up the hill, back to the car park to complete the circular route.
