Swimming Holes

This is an interesting spring fed swimming hole. It has two pools, one is man-made, the other is natural with a mud bottom. The natural pool has a swinging rope and places for kids to dive. Also has a very nice butterfly garden. You could easily spend a day here. Price was $9 for adults and $5 for kids under 12 last time I checked.

A clean, lightly used public pool that's right down the street. Has lanes, diving boards, and a slide. If you want to take a quick dip this place is more than convenient. Closes for the season after August 8th for some reason and it just sits there, full of water, for several hot months, mocking us.

River Tubing on the San Marcos River! This is a perfect day trip for just about everybody. It'll take you about an hour to get there. Basically you park your car and take a school bus upstream to the starting point. There's a literal mountain of tubes to choose from. You grab one and float down the river back to your car. It takes about 3-4 hours to float back. Bring a cooler full of beverages, because you'll want something to drink (you can rent an extra tube to carry it). The river is mostly calm. There are a few sets of small rapids, but they're nothing to worry about. It can get crowded on the weekends.

Austin's "central park." It's a bit far but it's a nice place to hang out. Lots of walking/biking paths and grassy areas. The park is alongside lady bird lake, and there are several places to rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. You could easily spend a day at the park and the surrounding area.

Not your usual antique store. It's full of bizarre items, including some real human bones. It's pretty far away, but if you're in South Austin then you should stop by. Every last Sunday of the month they have a flea market in the parking lot from 10 to 3!

Entertainment

An Austin landmark for at least 55 years, and it hasn't changed a bit during that time. It's a Honky-Tonk, so it's all about square dancing, the Texas Two Step to be exact. Don't know how? Terri will teach you. Show up before 7:30 to sign up for a class.
