Before that, for thousands of years,it was an important meeting place for the three nations, the Bunurong, Woiworung and Wathaurung. You can see eclectic films, moving image displays, visit the Ian Potter gallery with permanent collections and exhibitions. Or join a group of folk and watch a concert, see a show on the main stage or BMW edge. and in between eat food and drink. Often in school holidays, theatre companies such as Melbourne's Snuff Puppets and Polyglot Theatre perform in the square.

Shops! Once upon a time there was only two cafes in the entire street -The Galleon and Scheherezade. Originally Wetlands as indeed the whole of that area is, Acland street was home to Jewish immigrants and with them they brought their delicious faraway recipes. Monarchs Cakes remains a true testament with their divine Polish Cheesecake, amongst the many genuine cakes and treats. Catch tram no 96, eight minutes walk from my apartment to get there!
