About 25 miles/45 minute drive from Sierra Retreat to McKinley Grove, a secluded stand of Giant Sequoias, in a quiet location away from the crowds. Restrooms on-site. Just after you make this turn, take a few moments to park and walk down to the beautiful mountain creek. After that, continue on to McKinley Grove. The whole route is really lovely!

Huntington is really beautiful, but relatively isolated, with few amenities - you gain @2,000 ft elevation on the way there. Both Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake are worth the trip if you love nature! Huntington is almost never crowded, which Shaver can be on weekends, mainly in the afternoons.
