This is our favorite beach just a 15 minute walk from our place. It's the largest beach with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy. There's a concession stands (with lots of food and non alcoholic drink options) and public restrooms. Half way down the beach his a playground and swings. There's also a nice view of the pier.

North Beach

This place is awesome! It's a 5 minute drive from our place. It's a large wooden play land with lots of options for kids to explore. There's also swings and it's next to a large field perfect to let them run around at.

A small public access beach at the end of Dyckman. While it's the closest beach, we often find it too small to enjoy during the day. There's also no bathrooms or concessions. However, it's perfect to go and see the sunset over the lake at night. You can bring a dessert picnic too!

A great small farm in South Haven that has U-Pick fruit and in the fall pumpkin picking. They also have a small petting zoo and farm market.

Great petting zoo for kids! You do a guided tour and learn about all the rescued animals. It’s run by donations, it’s suggested $5 per person. Call ahead to book a time!

Food scene
Less than a 2 minute walk from our place is the famous Captain Lou's. They have a large deck on the river that is a perfect spot to watch the boats comes in and out. It gets crowded so get there early. It's not the best spot for small kiddos as all the tables on the deck are high tops and the tables are pretty close together.

A restaurant and bar on a boat! The docked boat is just what you need to soak up summer. The restaurant is great for families, they have a kids menu and crayons and what kid doesn't love being on a boat! Call ahead or get there early as during the summer there can be a long wait.

This place is just over the bridge from our place and has the best sandwiches around. They also sell beer, wine, and ice. This is a great spot to pick up sandwiches for your group. Call ahead and place your order for a speedy pickup.

Head down to the beach after dinner. The closest beach (Dyckman Street Beach) will do the trick to see an amazing sunset to finish the day!

While it's hot during the day, often at night you will want a sweater or light jacket with the breeze off the lake.

A walk along the river to the lake
We love to walk this 1.5 mile loop which is stroller friendly! From our place head down Black River, cross over Dyckman and walk along all the boats and the river. Bring bread or goldfish and feed the ducks along your walk. You will see all the boats coming in and out. As you get further along the river towards the famous pier be on the look out for the pedestrian walk path that cuts through once the road ends. Once you hit North Beach there's 3 steps to get up to the side walk. Walk along the beach, head up Avery at the end of the Beach to North Shore, then right on Dyckman to get home!

Break from the Beach Day Must Do Agenda
Start your morning (post coffee) at Fell In Love Farm in Holland. Call ahead and make sure they have a tour available. Meet all sorts of animals at this rescue farm, learn and interact with them too.
Next stop, Virtue Cider. Head to the beautiful grounds of Virtue where you can lounge in the grass, let the kids run, enjoy some cider and delicious lunch. Stop next door at Modales Wines to sample local wine too.
As you make your way back towards South Haven stop at Evergreen Creamery to sample local cheeses. This adorable creamery is a must, and you can bring some snacks for later.
