This is where King David Hartley and the Cragg Vale Coiners worked, illegally clipping coins. The great book by Benjamin Myers tells the tale and describes the scenery of the area beautifully. Now a new TV series. See my suggestions for visits to The Cross in Heptonstall and the Robin Hood on the road up Cragg Vale too.

Enjoy the town with the most independent shops in the country. A previous textile town reinvented into a great town to visit at any time of year. Shopping, walking, enjoying the many restaurants and pubs.

A beautiful village above Hebden Bridge on the hillside, showing the quaint style and heritage of the old weaving industry. A couple of pubs to quench your thirst after the steep climb. Visit The Cross to see the newly revealed fireplace where King David Hartley of the Cragg Vale Coiners had an “altercation” (Gallows Pole). In complete contrast visit the peaceful resting place of Sylvia Plath. There is a regular bus service if you don't fancy the climb.

Take a walk along the towpath. The walk between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden is approximately 5 miles long and winds its way between wooded valleys and farm land.

Within the same building as the apartment sits the Remedy Wine bar. Take out or stay and enjoy their tasting menu or pick a bottle from their extensive collection. You can even enjoy a cheese platter selection supplied by the Goo Cheese shop next door but one. Really great atmosphere, well worth a visit.

Great traditional pub with Thai food on the menu. Steeped in Coiners history as the place where, in January 1771, Abraham Ingham, a farm labourer was overheard saying that he would identify the Coiner’s gang. He was throwing into the lit fireplace and died. Don’t think of grassing on the Coiners!

Car parking

On street parking in the centre is mostly short stay. Always get a ticket - just 20 pence for the first 30 mins and an extra 20p for the second 30. Parking attendants are really on the ball so be prepared. Circle round if there is nothing first time. The closest paid parking is across from the main entrance to Carlton Chambers - across the road and immediate right in front of the Jules pottery shop - this is Garden Street carpark, HX7 8AQ. There is free parking, places like the Victoria Road area HX7 8JX and the main road towards Mytholmroyd.
