Two parks run end to end one block north of the highway (Striker and Ochoco). There is a beautiful walking path along Ochoco Creek on the north side of these parks. You'll see the city and county have invested in some wonderful youth spaces and historic amenties. Walking is good ---

About an hours drive west is Bend with all it's amenities. Fun baseball league (in season), a Great Park with 4 outdoor bandstands (look on city web site for concert schedule), river tubing and paddle boarding (even surfing). Most shopping including Costco, Trader Joe's, Wilco, restaurans and movie theaters.

The weather can change on a dime!
Check the forecast but still go prepared for anything (dress in layers, have a jacket handy). If you hate the weather, wait 10 minutes because it will likely change. One thing to watch is that a warm day can, and often does, swing 40 degrees by 9:00 PM.

I'm from Phoenix -- it's a slower pace in Oregon. You kind of have to learn to enjoy it but, do enjoy it :)

Strangers will say hi to you at the store, when you're walking, even driving past you when you're in your car. Say hi back :), it's what we do here.
