Sightseeing

WINTER: Crystal Mountain has over 50 runs and 2,600 acres of terrain - most would agree that it's the best skiing in Washington state. You can also enjoy their snowshoeing trails. SUMMER: Take the gondola to the top and enjoy some food and drink while taking in amazing views of Mt Rainier. When you've had your fill, ride the gondola back down or enjoy a leisurely and hike down. They also often have live music on summer weekends in addition to food trucks at the base of the mountain.

Sunrise Visitor Center is the highest elevation you can reach by car in Mount Rainier National Park (6,400 feet). It's the perfect place to picnic while enjoying breathtaking views of the mountain and an ideal place to begin a hike given the stunning mountain views. It is typically open from early July through September. It is otherwise closed, so be sure to check the status of the roads and the visitor's center before you depart. Some of our favorite hikes begin here such as the Burroughs Mountain Trail. Check out the Washington Trails Association website and/or the Sunrise Visitor Center website for more details on local hikes. If you're feeling ambitious, we recommend driving up to Sunrise early to actually watch the sun rise on the mountain. It is beautiful. For the best view, park at the visitor's center and walk a few minutes up the trail that meanders uphill just to the right of the parking lot. Get there early (before sunrise) so that you catch the whole show. Dress warmly and bring a blanket and your camera!

Grocery and food advice

Our cabin is located in Greenwater, Washington. We recommend stocking up on your groceries in Enumclaw (or Yakima if coming from the East), as there are no groceries available in Greenwater. Enumclaw is the nearest town to our cabin and is approximately a 30 minute drive away. Food available in Greenwater includes a gas station with typical snacks, a deli inside the local snowboard shop, and a variety of snacks at Wapiti Outdoors and Greenwater Collective shops. The Naches Tavern also serves food although beer is recommended :)
