Services available in the town include medical clinic, massage therapy, dentist, optician, hairdresser and chemist. It also has a superb well-priced op shop in a cottage bordering the shopping precinct, open T,W, F & Sat.

Midland is an historic town and the main industrial and shopping hub for the region. It has shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, cafes, retail shops, tourist shops and services (hairdresser etc). It also has trains and buses to the city of Perth.

If you forget a few basics like milk then the Parkerville Store is ten minutes pleasant walk away and open most hours.

Parks & Nature
There is an extensive range of walking/cycling/horseriding trails (Reserve Heritage Trail bordering my property) that access John Forrest National Park with its lagoons & picnic areas, and the spectacular granite outcrops of Hovea Falls, as well as beyond and all the way to the Swan Valley. Friendly kangaroos and birds frequent at the tavern in the park.

On Falls Road is the small but picturesque state reserve of Falls Park, also known as Parkerville Falls, where the creek tumbles over granite boulders and slides down a rockslope during the wet seasons. There is a strategic picnic area on a levelled spot higher up from the water but the terrain is mostly suited to rockhoppers and creek explorers.

Lake Leschenaultia is a hidden jewel in the forrest and only a short 15min drive from Hovea. It is a small scenic lake but large enough to swim and canoe. Canoes are available for hire. There are ample picnic areas set in the trees and a cafe.
