Food Scene

Looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner in or around Mammoth Lakes. I will share my favorites with you.
Most say the best Mexican food in town. Their biggest competitor is Gomez's in the Village but you can't go wrong with Roberto's Mexican Cafe. Expect a wait for dinner every time you visit. The second level is a bar and you can possibly dine in the bar. The bar upstairs is a good place to catch a game too.

I've enjoyed the Mogul since I was a kid. It is a quintessential restaurant in Mammoth. We have dined here more often than anywhere else in Mammoth. Steaks and the only salad bar in Mammoth.

One of top fine dining locations in the Mammoth aree and located at the historic Tamarack Lodge. Not a large dining room but while you are waiting the lodge provides an authentic old time area to wait, have a drink and play games in front of the roaring 1920's era fireplace.

Restaurant featuring creative American dishes, wine & local beers, plus baseball decor & TVs. Owner and Chef Matt Toomey is the creator of the famed Lobster Taquitos at the Whoa Nellie Deli, a popular stop in Lee Vining near the West gate of Yosemite National Park. This is his first sit-down restaurant in Mammoth. Don't be fooled by the fast casual style when you walk in the door. They have a large dining room adjacent the kitchen that will accomodate large groups and crowds. The food is high quality. And available for take-out also.

Same as Mammoth Brewing Company, the eatery is the food side of the business. Arguably, the best burger in town!

Parks & Nature

Looking for things to do, experiences and places to visit in or around Mammoth? I will share some of mine with you.
Amazing natural beauty. Mammoth Lakes is only a 45 minute drive from the East Entrance to Yosemite National Park. A daytrip with an early morning departure from Mammoth is a must-do experience. I strongly recommend a visit to Yosemite Valley (about a 2 hour drive from Mammoth).

Drinks & Nightlife

Wondering what to do apres-ski or after a long day of hiking and fishing? I'll share my thoughts.
Laid-back haunt with a woodsy interior & New American fare, plus TVs, mountain views & happy hour. Great gastro pub with stunning views of the Sherwin Mountains, Sierra Crest and Mammoth Mountain if you arrive before dark. It's always crowded and expect a wait to get in.

The best known brewery housed in the former home of Whiskey Creek Mammoth (the 1980's were the best!). Great food, great beer. Great stop for lunch, after biking, skiing or evenings outside.

Sightseeing

Devils Postpile National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located near Mammoth Mountain in Eastern California. The monument protects Devils Postpile, an unusual rock formation of columnar basalt. Also nearby is Rainbow Falls. I recommend everyone take the shuttle at Main Lodge down to Red's Meadow and hike to both Rainbow Falls and Devils Postpile. Amazing natural wonders.

Se déplacer dans les environs

No Uber in Mammoth? How to get around without a car.

The town of Mammoth is only 4 square miles. When I am visiting I walk or bike as often as possible and use the free Town of Mammoth shuttle system provided by Eastern Sierra Transit which offers several routes around town, to the ski area in the Winter, and to the Lakes Basin in the Summer. They also have Dial-A-Ride and there is a Mammoth Taxi Cab company. But, there is not Uber or Lyft. YART, Yosemite Area Rapid Transit also has a bus that goes from Mammoth to Yosemite and back every day.
Que faut-il apporter ?

Be prepared for the weather and pack accordingly

The weather in the Sierra can change in an instant. In Summer, it is not uncommon to have afternoon thundershowers. In the Winter, it can be sunny and change to a snowstorm in minutes. Either way, be prepared for it getting colder than what you expect any time of the year. Layers are important year round. Be prepared.
