This place is straight down the hill, just 3 miles away in the Athens historic district, and right on the Hudson River with beautiful views. Their menu is casual yet upscale. They also have a lively bar with live music on the weekends and an indoor restaurant if the weather is not on your side for outdoor dinng.

If hiking, swimming, kayaking are on your agenda, this is a great place. About half an hour away, it's a 1,100 acre park in Haines Falls.

Just down the road apiece, Catskill is a lovely upstate small town with those quirky little shops and wonderful little shops you are looking for. Don't miss some of the new restaurants there either.

Frederic Church started the Hudson Valley School of Art and his home not only contains many historically significant pieces, ithe house and grounds themselves are works of art. It is reachable via car or trail that extends from Olana to the Thomas Cole house. The trail can be done on foot or bicycle and includes a ride or walk across the Rip Van Winkle bridge.

Right next door to the Stewart House River Grill is the Athens town dock, and that is where the Hudson Ferry can pick you up for a beaufiful boatride across the Hudson River. The ride is short, but you will wish it was longer, and it is a beautiful alternative to driving into Hudson for dinner, shopping or sightseeing.
The ferry runs every Friday and Saturday evening from 5-10pm during the summer months.
