We love to walk there across Vanderbilt's campus (which is a beautiful arboretum in and of itself) so it's like going through one park to get to another! About a 40 min walk, but really enjoyable. Plus you can see our replica of the Parthenon! It's quite a sight to behold.

Amazingly restored Civil War fort (the largest inland fort built during the war, in fact) walking distance from the Avion. Has a nice walking path surrounding it plus lots of signage explaining the history of the site.

A fun secret is that if there's a concert at Ascend Ampitheatre (just across the river) that night, you can hear the band from Cumberland Park or the pedestrian bridge, too, without buying tickets.
