Just after we bought the cottage, we had a delicious Italian dinner here to celebrate. Loved the food. Loved the service. I suggest making reservations.

We still can't believe our good luck. Great pizza and a nice environment less than a block away! Do get some Red Boy Pizza if you have the chance. Really.

Saturday 9am-2pm. One of my favorite things to do is to visit Anfilo Coffee at the farmers market. I sit down with my favorite people and relax with Ethiopian coffee prepared in the traditional way.

My dear friend swears by Arizmendi, a worker owned cooperative where you can get pizza and other baked goods. It is one of her favorite places in Oakland. I can't wait to try it myself!

This is a beautiful park with large oaks, grassy fields, and trails. It's a great place to walk from the cottage. You can also shoot hoops, swim laps, play tennis, and play with the kids.

Locals rave about Farmer Joe's. You might love it, too! I tend to go to the Safeway, which is even closer. I enjoy the diverse shoppers and the "everybody's-an-insider-in-Oakland" feel of the Safeway.

Another one rides the bus! Hey, hey, hey! Another one rides the bus! Take the AC Transit #18 bus right down Park Boulevard to Lake Merritt. Then enjoy a stroll around the lake.

I'm not much of a shopper, but I love being on Piedmont Avenue. My teenage girls enjoy finding unique clothes, and they love the shops! Piedmont Ave. is part of what I love about Oakland. Great vibe!

If you want to enjoy live music, before you arrive, check the calendar for the Fox Theater. It is a restored, historic theater with a great calendar. (Use your best city skills for parking.)
