From our cottage, the beach at Langland Bay is not only the nearest, but it is a sandy beach (accessible for wheelchair users), is safe, friendly for families, great for sandcastle-making, has lots of rock-pools to explore at low-tide, is very wide, has life-guards on duty (May to September), is dog-friendly from 1st October to 30th April (but a dog-ban is in place between 1st May to 30th September), is good for swimming, surfing, and other watersports, has a very large car park, toilets (including one that is Disabled-accessible), tennis courts, a restaurant, a 'shop' selling ice-creams and beach 'toys', and the Gower section of the "Wales Coastal Path" passes parallel to the beach along the promenade.
It is also possible to walk to the beach at Langland Bay, although as with most of Gower's Bays, one has to go down a hill to reach the sea and sand (which therefore means that afterwards, one has to come UP a hill !)

A really wonderful Family friendly sandy beach, where castles' are built every day, only to be washed away on the next tide.

Anyone can imagine being a Knight in olden days, at this amazing Castle, whether walking or riding through the Castle Gates, into the heart of the place.
Although we might not be able to ride a companioned horse these days, we are able to, nonetheless, climb the battlements, walk the castle walls, and visit long disused dungeons - and whatever one's age, think back on that period, and think what one would have done if you had lived on those times!
