Jewel of India has my favourite Indian food in Oslo, and they're right next-door! Good for people who don't like their food too spicy, and for people who like it super hot. They're rarely very busy and you can usually get a table. Open from 16-23 Mon-Sat, and from 15-22 on Sundays. The kitchen closes one hour before the restaurant.

Cocoa serves, well, cocoa in lots of different flavours. They are perfect for rainy or chilly Oslo days and fulfill your sweet tooth. It can be very busy, so if you've no time to wait I'd take my cocoa on the go :) Open from 12-19 Mon-Fri, and 11-18 during the weekend.

This is hands-down my favourite place to meet for weekend brunch or lunch. They do amazing crêpes, sweet or savoury, vegetarian or meat as you prefer. Open 11-21 all week.

The Dublin is your typical brown, Irish pub, with lots of spirit and plenty of personality. This isn't the most upscale clientele; it's a low-key gastro bar that sometimes gets a bit rowdy later on. I like the Whiskey Bar best - they have an amazing apple cider, La Chouette, which unlike most ciders actually tastes of apples and not just sugar.
There's usually a live band on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. A relaxed, plain, working-class place to go and have beers. The kitchen is open from 14-22.

The Viking Ships are stunning in real life: You definitely get the feeling of connection with history. Must-see! I recommend going outside of a weekend if you can, to avoid the crowds. Open from 9-18 (almost) every day of the fear.

The opera is amazing, for a tour or an entire performance or just visiting. Highly recommended! Tickets range greatly in price, so you can definitely get them cheaper if you plan ahead.

Parks & Nature
The Vigeland park is by far my favourite in Oslo. Gustav Vigeland's sculptures are very different from the classical ones; more solid and rough-hewn. In today's world of six-packs and super-slim models, it's really reassuring to walk among these sculptures that all look like they could do a good day's hard physical work. The park is also beautiful, with plenty of photo options. Don't miss the "circle" sculpture behind the monolith. If you stand from there and look towards the monolith, you'll get a nice set of motifs with the circle, the monolith, and in the distance, Uranienborg church.

Joker is your go-to local convenience store. The selection is smaller than in one of your bigger shopping centres, but it has the advantage of being open on Sundays. Open 7-24 during the week, and 9-24 during the weekend.

The bottom end of Markveien has a set of vintage shops and coffee places. It's a lovely place to go shopping, and most of the shops are open on Sundays, though not very late. I usually go here with visiting girlfriends on the hunt for the perfect vintage dress :) Be sure to drop by Frøken Dianas Salonger, and Skaperverket at the very end of the street!
