Food Scene
Sultan's market started out as a lil market that sold falafels & meat pies. Over the years Shade and his mom have continually improved the place by added gold to the ceiling murals on the calls or handmade lighting fixtures. The menu has also increased with the cafeteria style severing authentic middle eastern food . And still with keeping the prices low. Today they have a huge salad bar and there is always lines of people waiting for their chicken shawarma or to create a salad. It's a locally owned lil treasure. And momma is still in the kitchen cooking.

They make crepes what more do I need to say. Oh and they have great books to read and comfy chairs. Plus the smoothies and juices are not too bad either.

Best guacamole and chips in my humble opinion. Everything is home made even the chips & tortillas. They have amazing taco & whiskey specials, the beet and sweet potato tacos are my fav.

Great little Chicago style dinner. Great breakfasts that are just big & good and not about high prices and frills. They have early morning specials daily from 7am -10am.

This place is a meat market / deli and a sandwich place. And their sandwiches are to die for. It is not cheap eats but their food is definitely worth the prices. Plus it is in a really cool neighborhood.

Plus their breakfast sandwiches with steamed eggs are my fav. Go and try their DaVinci, you will be lucky to be able to finish the whole things, and it only costs $8.
In the main building there is a food court in the lower level that is where the Chinese eat. So if you want authentic Chinese food make your way down the steps and enter a world of menus only in Chinese characters. But don't worry some of the staff speak english and there are pictures on the menu for you to point at.

My favorite restaurant in Chicago. This is fine dinning and is not for the budget conscious, but definitely worth going if you can get reservations.

Sightseeing
From milwaukee Ave or North Ave just under the "L" tracks heading west, you will come across Hoyne. It is my favorite street filled with beautiful old mansions. Great for a stroll. You can keep walking west until Chicago Avenue. You will be in Ukrainian Village where you can stop in any of there local deli for home made pierogi and other imported goods.

This Walgreens once was a Bank, and the architects utilized the old structure to create an amazingly beautiful shop. The vault is now the vitamin vault and the ceiling has been taken back to it's original glory with gold inlay and chandeliers. This shop is a perfect example of how a building can be repurposed and keep it's original integrity.

Danny's opened in 1996 when the neighborhood was still filled with artists. It is an authentic Bucktown local bar located on the first floor of a building. So basically it is an apartment converted into a bar. If you want a place that is cool and diverse but not trendy go to here.

Beautiful lake you can fish in and a great coffee shop in the boat house. This is a modern play area for the kids and also free public tennis courts. This is a day time park. A place to go and feed the ducks and buy snow cones, or freshly cut mango from the vendors carts.

This place has been in Wicker Park sense the 90's, it has had many different addresses but the selection of music and movies stay amazing. This is the place you go to by vinyl or used CDs. Every time I go there one of the employees turn me onto a new band.

If you are into vintage and digging to find that special treasure this is your store. Unlike the second hand stores in Wicker Park this place is cheap and loaded with all sorts of coolness. You could easily spend all day going through the color coordinated racks of clothing.

This is one of the truly authentic thrift stores left in Wicker Park. All proceeds go to support elderly Jewish people and there are great finds on there tightly packed racks. Doesn't look like much from the window but you will find mostly high end & name brands of clothing along with way too many barely used shoes. I don't think I have ever paid more than 8 bucks for an item in this place.

Doesn't look like much from the window but you will find mostly high end & name brands of clothing along with way too many barely used shoes. I don't think I have ever paid more than 8 bucks for an item in this place.

It is about a 6 block walk, but well worth it. Great organic selections, wonderful deli & prepared meals. Their fresh orange juice is a must to start your day.

All their products are vegan. And be warned once you buy one of their many different products you will become hooked. They are very generous with giving samples of any of their products so you can give it a try before purchasing.

My favorite Ukrainian deli. They have homemade soups from 1.50 - 2.50. Breads are amazing and their sausage and meet selection is to die for. This is the place to go if you want authentic Eastern European foods.
