Places around Big Bear Valley that my family visits/frequents and we can personally recommend.
Newly Re-designed in 2021. One of the two Alpine zoos in the US this is a nice lsize and takes about 90 min or maybe more if you stay for the daily presentations. You'll see Bald Eagles, Wolves, Bears, Mountain Lions, Foxes and Coyotes up very close. You鈥檒l even see my favorite little critter the very Blonde Raccoon named Bowie (of course). Kids under 3 are free. Stop at the really cute gift shop to show your support and pick up some very kid friendly souvenirs.

Home of the newly built 2020 Big Bear Mineshaft Roller Coaster. It鈥檚 a fun almost 10 min high speed ride through the trees and gives you a great peek at the lake. Highly recommended for all ages.

The Caramel Apples and Fudge are made in house. Locally owned and a Big Bear Lake tradition all year long. Absolutely a must for sweet tooths and kids of any age.

You might not think Poke bowls when you think Big Bear but Local-Tropicali.....Voted the 15th Best Restaurant in America by Yelp. The Mountain Mahalo vibe is friendly and the food is just unstoppable . And who doesn鈥檛 love the Tiki style ?

The best cup of coffee in Big Bear. Hands down and I am a coffee addict. All beans are roasted on site. Not a huge snack selection so I just go for the coffee. Highly suggested as a place to bring back an awesome local product as a souvenir or gift.

The Cinnamon Pecan French Toast is worth the calories. I'm happily thinking about it as I write this....... Also any of the Benedicts are great choices. Alex loves the Irish Benedict with Thelma's homemade corned beef hash. And Mimosas are available ; ) Cash Only but there is an atm onsite. My favorite local "hearty" Big Bear City breakfast spot. They make great apple dumplings and homemade pies abound.

So this sweet little spot is a drive up kiosk that has tasty options both sweet and savoury. They even have some great vegan options. And best of all, their lattes are out of this world. You won鈥檛 be disappointed. Worth it.
