Beautiful way to spend a day. Love the Museum of Photographic Arts. Right next to the Rail Road Museum. There are always street style performances going on and yes they hope you put a dollar in the hat. Always something interesting going on. Scenic. Some unpaved trails and some paved.
Museums large and small. Some art galleries. Some free some a nominal fee and some offer memberships. Enjoy a beer in the Sculpture Garden and or a lunch or dinner at the casual Panama 66. Check Panama 66's web site before hand as sometimes they have private events that close down the venue. Also El Prado restaurant is lovely. You can order alacart in the bar area or enjoy more of an upscale dining experience in the main restaurant.
Balboa Park truly has something for everybody. Check the park website www.balboapark.org for information. Including the Free Tuesdays schedule. The park is right next to the San Diego Zoo and right in the middle of downtown.

Stroll the streets holding hands and paying attention to nothing but the little shop fronts and each other. Or socialize in the wine bar, or make friends at The Station. Your options are open. A mile or so walk. Thorn then Right on Redwood, Left on 30th street and walk about a mile or less. And there it is. Small but with so much to offer.

Walk home happy and exhausted as the buzz wears off or take a $5 cab ride if you wore your heels and your feet are done for the night.
