Super sandy, quiet, and just… chill. Never too many people there. This is the perfect beach picnic, sand castle-building, wading in the water, or even skim boarding type of beach. Great for families and dogs, too

Many historical artifacts exist on the trail today from way back when Powell River was a booming logging town. There’s everything from the old Steam Donkey to the Sidewinder, and plenty of other interesting logging machines. Right where it ends, I suggest going down to the beach and continue walking towards Second beach where you can see the Hulks from World War II

Located on the northern border of the City near Wildwood, Gibson’s Beach is a favorite among locals who want to escape some of the busier crowds in the City. Interspersed by sand and rocky sections, Gibsons Beach is perfect for enjoying family picnics, beach-combing, and exploring. It also has a small boat launch for the times when you want to get out there quickly to hopefully catch the big one!

Length & Difficulty: 1 km | 20 minutes | Easy This is a very popular walk due to its location and low difficulty level. All along this 1 km (about 20 minutes) route that is beautiful in its simplicity you have a great close-up view of the Strait of Georgia, especially at high tide. You can also see three of Powell River’s closest islands: Texada, Harwood, and Savary. If you go down to the beach from our house, you walk for about 20 minutes until you reach the beginning of the trail. Be mindful of the tide. You might have to come back using the street as the beach gets flooded.

If you're in Powell River for 4 or more days you can go to Lund, have a snack at Nancy's bakery or if you're really hungry and you like sea- food, stop for lunch at The Boardwalk Restaurant. Then grab a water - taxi to head off to Savary Island. With the warmest waters north of the Baja, local scuba diving boasts excellent visibility and truly abundant sea life. Snorkel, swim or sunbathe the sandy white shores of tropical Savary Island accessible by water taxi. The unpaved roadways, winding trails, and friendly islanders make it a relaxing place to bike, hike, or beach-comb. The island has no power and no public campsites or washrooms, so pack all you need (and also bring it back)

Sunshine Coast Trail

Did you know the world famous Sunshine Coast trail is located mostly in Powell River? It's a 180-kilometre back country hiking experience that stretches from Sarah Point in Desolation Sound to Saltery Bay. If you want a one day hike I suggest doing the “Tin Hat Mountain” part. It takes about 8 hrs return. This hut is a fully winterized cabin with pellet stove and is located in, arguably, one of the most beautiful spots on the Sunshine Coast Trail.
