Sightseeing

– This is high in the mountains that overlook Magen's Bay. We always plan a day to go up to Mountain Top, have a "famous Banana Daiquiri" (or two), see the fantastic views/photo ops. Be sure to shop for some beachy apparel and souvenirs at a great price. Then head your way down to Magen's Bay and spend the rest of your day there.

Located 1.5 mi from downtown Charlotte Amalie. Home to 60+ shops, restaurants, including Senor Frogs, Hooters, and more. We find great prices on alcohol to bring back to the States. This is also where the cruises ships dock.

This beach is direct to the west of Sapphire Beach. Unfortunately, you cannot walk and will need to drive if you want to visit this beach. As you exit Sapphire, it is the third driveway (if you pass the Ace Hardware, you have gone too far). They charge an entrance fee. There are not many amenities on this beach, and therefore, not many cruise ship people. There are bathrooms and showers on your way to the beach. Snorkeling is OK on this beach. In the evening, you may see turtles grazing on the bottom grass.

There is a fee to park at this beach, it is great for swimming, and you can rent snorkel gear, kayaks, and lounge chairs. This beach is on the north coast and about a 20 min drive from Sapphire Beach. We like to go through the gate, and go left to the far end of the parking lot, much less crowded. Then walk down to the bar or restaurant.

One of the more crowded beaches, this is great for snorkeling and convenient if you also plan to visit Coral World. Please note when visiting this beach, you will travel through a not so desirable part of town (one or two blocks) as you exit the main road. Parking will be crowded at Coki, and when you park, you will be escorted by a young plain-clothed local that will accompany you from the parking space to the beach. He will also take your drink and food order and set you up with a rental chair if you want to rent a chair ($7 -10 each for the day). While parking is free, you should expect to provide a tip for being escorted from your car to the beach. If you have young children (under 10 years), Coral World is fun to visit. You can feed Lorikeets, feed Stingrays, watch a sea lion show, swim with turtles, sharks, and sea lions. We like to visit Coral World in the morning, park in their lot, and then walk down to Coki.

St. John has many beautiful beaches, and over 75% of the Island is National Park. There are many restaurants and stores for shopping. To get to St. John, you will need to take the ferry out of Red Hook. If you have a car, the car ferry charge is $30 one way or $50 round trip. (AVIS will not allow their vehicles to leave the Island) There are several different services, so if you do buy a round trip ticket, you will need to come back on the same service. You will have more flexibility if you purchase one-way tickets as each service has various times. You can Google St. Thomas ferry schedule and find all info you need. If you are not in a car, the per person price is $6 one way and $12 round trip. You can taxi ($6pp) around the Island to the various beaches for snorkeling, stop in town for lunch and shopping and then catch the ferry back to St. Thomas. Pictured below is Trunk Bay, St. John's, there is a spectacular snorkel trail with signs underwater, and the beach is simply fabulous. If you have the time for a day trip to St. John's, it's worth it.

St Thomas is not very walkable

There are many hills, it can take a bit to get used to driving on the left side, and the locals do not hesitate to stop in the middle of the road to speak with a friend or family member. It is relatively easy to adjust to driving on the left side. Do not tailgate, don't text or talk on a cell phone, and pay attention, and you will be fine driving in St. Thomas. Taxi Service – Taxi service is available on site, and cabs are typically waiting near beachside parking lots during daytime hours; ask the office for more details. You may also call 340-774-7457 or 340-690-0049 and request cab service.
