Sightseeing
Kolob Canyons is actually part of Zion National Park (1 hour), but has a separate entrance and is located 40mins closer to Cedar City. 20 mins from home, it's a great place to get the feel of Zion, without all the crowds. At the top of the stunning 5 mile drive up the canyons, is The Timber Creek Overlook Trail. A short hike (about a mile) with a killer vista. There are also longer hikes through the canyons, stop at the ranger station for more info on your way in!

Kanarraville Falls is a famous hike through slot canyons. There are tree ladders and rope climbs that lead to dramatic waterfalls. Takes several hours to hike the whole thing, but the entire hike is beautiful so many hikers are satisfied to go a ways, and then turn around. You'll need a reservation for this hike so make sure to get that. And ALWAYS check the local and surrounding weather before you hike in canyons.

Both are beautiful drives and take about the same amount of time. I recommend taking one way there, and another way back as both are littered with places to stop, hike, and take it all in! If you take the back way over Cedar Mountain, you will climb in elevation more (up to 7000ft), and there are far less food and gas stops. That's the backcountry way, but it's lovely and far less crowded!
