Worth a visit for the building and setting alone. Restaurant is good. The displays are thought provoking and sometimes heart breaking.

Drinks & Nightlife

Great music in an intimate setting. Friendly, safe place to catch some live music. This is our favourite dive bar in Winnipeg - where local musicians come to try out new material or new groups. A mix of local and touring performers share one thing in common - playing good music for good people. Limited food menu available.

A friendly, youth oriented bar with live music or DJ driven dance parties most nights. A favourite hang out for students from the University of Winnipeg. A good place for a coffee or bite to eat while reading or browsing during the day. At night you can enjoy a drink, and listen (or dance) to live music or the best local DJ's. This is a safe venue where everyone can feel comfortable.

Arts & Culture

Our favourite local music venue. We volunteer there for the joy of it. Check out their calendar and see if there are any shows you might like while you are here. They also offer free music lessons to local youth and a popular band camp for girls. Good selection of beer, but no food. Right across the street from one of our favourte restaurants - Feast Cafe Bistro. Many happy evenings started with indigenous fare from Feast followed by great music and a beer at WECC.

WAG is a typical art gallery in a small city. But it does have the best collection of Inuit Art in the world and that alone makes it worth consideration. Check what visiting collections are in town on their web site: https://www.wag.ca/

Food Scene

Our go to place for eastern Mediterranean food. Don't let the paper plates fool you - the food is great as well as inexpensive.

Sport bar, coffee shop, restaurant, pool hall - Sal and his family offer a bit of each. Great Italian lunches at a reasonable price and the best coffee in 'the hood'. Big screen for sporting events! Live music on occasion. This is a friendly neighbourhood space that has been bringing people together since Sal's parents opened it 50 years ago.

An indigenous run restaurant which takes traditional foods of the land and presents them in new ways. The food is excellent and the people friendly. Friday and Saturday nights feature bison ribs in a local berry sauce that is so good they sometimes sell out. Nice place for dinner before taking in a live music show across the street at the West End Cultural Centre.

Sightseeing

A great place to get a sense of Winnipeg's history. Lots of pleasant places to walk, boat tours in season along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, an excellent Children's Museum, and lots of small shops for tourists. In winter there is skating rink with skate rentals and when it is cold enough a long skating and walking trails on the two rivers. One of our favourite places to go for a winter walk in Winnipeg. This is a popular site for locals and tourists alike.

This is the traditional francophone part of the city. There are two business sections. Provencher is right across the river from The Forks and includes shops, restaurants, a museum and the Franco Manitoban Cultural Centre. Le Garage is an excellent bar and restaurant while Cafe Postal and La Belle Baguette, a bakery, offer great day time treats. Marion Street, parallel to Provencher and a few blocks south also has shops, bars, and restaurants suited to a variety of tastes.

The old warehouse district in the heart of the city is now a growing centre of Winnipeg's night life. In addition to many good restaurants and bars, it is the heart of much of Winnipeg's performing arts. The are really comes alive during the summer Festival season. Winnipeg's Jazz Festival and Fringe Festival are particularly popular and fill the streets of the Exchange District with visitors and locals alike.
